Anyone following this? I guess it's nice to see all these old farts back racing against each other again They're having their first race at Kyalami (a great track btw), South Africa this weekend, and the qualifying results are in:

Too bad Prost isn't there, or I think he'd wipe the floor with them. Alan Jones had really bad neck muscle spasms, so he had to withdraw. Elisio Salazar is the one subbing for him.

Prost had said he'd race but backed out again :icon8: I haven't heard what the reason was yet.

Without Prost being there, I had expected Mansell to be the fastest. The guy who really surprised me though was Emmo, because he's really old, but then again he was still racing competitively in Champcars in the 90's, so he probably had an easier time getting himself acquainted with the car than some of these other guys like Stucky, who AFAIK has been out of single-seater racing since he competed in F1 in the 70's.

I haven't seen some of these guys in a long time. Can't believe Patrese and Warwick having that much gray hair already :icon32: I'd love to see more former world champions like Stewart (probably too old), Lauda, Piquet, Andretti (probably too old too), Hunt, Scheckter, Rosberg, Hill (probably not old enough yet), etc. competing :icon30:

Keke or Nico? I wasn't aware that either one was doing DTM Nico won the GP2 title this year and has already been confirmed as a Williams driver for 2006.

keke was. he was driving for Mercedes. couple of years ago though.

Haven't been following DTM at all. Don't even know how well Hakkinen did in that series this year. Just heard that he won at Spa or something early in the season :icon32:

I couldn't watch the race myself, but I heard that it was pretty good. Clearly Nigel and Emmo were in a class of their own. Emmo was just awesome considering how old he is (he'll turn 59 next month) :icon14:

Yeah that's really a shame. I thought at least SPEED would carry it. gpmasters.com lists ESPN as showing highlights, but I don't see it anywhere in their programming. Over in Europe, I think they had it on free TV.

He was (and probably still is) certainly a nutcase. He was fairly quick and holds one very special record in F1: most GP starts without a win.

My most vivid memory of him was when he ran Nannini off the track at Imola in 1990(?). Back then the Tamburello corner was still flat out, and De Cesaris was not aware that Nannini had pulled alongside him (on the left hand side) coming out of it and moved over on Nannini to take that very fast right kink before the Tosa hairpin. Basically that was the fastest part of the track when they were close to 200 mph. To avoid a collision, Nannini had to go off the track and eventually into the wall.

I remember Berger making the same move on Mansell during the race, but Berger knew Mansell was there and thought that Mansell would pass him on the right instead of on the left. Luckily for Mansell, he only did a 360 and didn't hit anything, so he was able to continue on.

Performance-wise, I think it'd still be slower than a GP2 car (but probably not by much).
