If he really feels so lucky, and wants to do something about it, he should let them do whatever tests they need to.

I wonder if the first test was faulty. They apparently only did one test on him and there is a rate of false-positives for such tests, so its possible he was misdiagnosed. Still, its an amazing thing if true.

yea hard to tell for sure as they don't elaborate on the standards they used to check. That said, it seems they did double checked their original samples.

Anyway, seems the fucker isn't coming back for more tests:
The tests were re-checked by the Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust when Stimpson threatened litigation believing there must be a mistake, but the results confirmed all the tests had been accurate.

In a letter understood to be from the NHS Litigation Authority in October this year, Stimpson was told: “The fact you have recovered from a positive antibody result to a negative result is exceptional and medically remarkable.”

The trust said there had been several other cases of claimed “spontaneous clearance” of the virus worldwide, although it is not believed any have been proved. A spokeswoman added that the trust had urged Stimpson to return for tests, but that so far he had not done so.

What they aren't saying is that the greedy fucker probably wants money, a lot of it, in return for tests.

He should be apprehended and forced to undergo more testing.

Typical money-grubbing cunt. We had a bloke the other day who managed to go home with an iv line in (don't blame me, blame the nurses - but anyway, he could have mentioned it when he was going), and when the family rang up and Sister suggested they come back and get the line removed, they said "no, we're not going to come back because we'd rather sue you instead". These wankers cost the NHS millions a year which could otherwise be spent on improving the service.

The perfect defense argument is: "if he had never come to the hospital he'd probably be dead"

No, it really isn't. Trust me, I know this stuff. I am a doctor, after all :) . There's absolutely no way that would stand up in court.... or even out of court, where most of these sorts of cases are settled.

Honestly, I'm just waiting for the day when we keep someone for observation and they sue us for wasted time and mental distress.

If we are to be consistent with our moral justifications for vivisection, and it turns out that this dude really did overcome HIV, then it's not hard to make the case for forcing him to undergo whatever tests necessary, perhaps even if it means killing him in the process.

private hospitals can lick my sack.

I went to a private hospital and had a biopsy..they told me i had cancer, i had less than 6 months to live, and i needed to have my leg cut off above the knee.

I went to a state run hospital, they re-checked me, found out it wasnt cancer, gave me surgery and sorted everything.

private hospitals .. very clean, private rooms, cable TV, badass food, leather chairs in the waiting rooms.

state run hospitals .. dont suggest cutting off healthy limbs.. dont tell your entire family you have terminal cancer

Actually, it is possible that it is true. There is a man in the U.S. who had a couple of lovers that had HIV but he never got it. It turns out that there is a mutated gene that makes it difficult to impossible for a virus to take hold. After the Black Plague in Europe, most of the people who survived had this mutated gene, that's why they didn't die of the plague, if they contracted it. People who had one copy would recover from the plague, and people who had two copies never got it at all. This mutated gene is still found in people of European descent, but hardly found in places like Asia. The man that had two lovers with HIV, was tested and they found he had two copies of the mutated gene. It's entirely possible that this English man has two copies, so the virus wasn't able to replicate in him.

Just a bit of privatization, you don't have to sack your whole public system. Just trying to get you out of a bind, probably not as bad as we have it here in Canada.

We're not in a fucking bind, we have nigh on the cheapest healthcare system to run in the western hemisphere. All the private companies are doing is cherrypicking the profitable bits of the health service and leaving to NHS to do the expensive stuff.

About half of all cancer cases are fatal, and death by cancer is often prolonged, painful, and very expensive. Those who manage to survive cancer live out their lives molded by the after-effects of harsh treatments popularly known as "slash and burn" -- surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or some combination of the three.

As more people are kept alive each year with their breasts or testicles removed, the "cancer establishment" chalks up another "victory" -- and no doubt the victims are glad to be alive -- but we should acknowledge that there's something very wrong with calling this "victory." Slash and burn seems more like a dreadful defeat.

The truth is, an epic struggle has been going on for 50 years between the "slash and burn=victory" camp, versus those who think the only real victory is prevention of disease. The struggle occurs across a fault line defined by money. To be blunt about it, there's no money in prevention, and once you've got cancer you'll pay anything to try to stay alive. Cancer treatment is therefore a booming business, and cancer prevention is nowhere. That is the basic dynamic of the debate. Cancer surgeons can achieve the status of rock stars among their peers. Those who advocate prevention will most likely find themselves without funding, ridiculed and despised by the chemical industry, the pesticide industry, the asbestos industry, the oil industry and all their minions -- lawyers, bankers, engineers, reporters, professors, and politicians -- who make a fat living off those who pump out cancer-causing products and dump out cancer-causing by-products, aka toxic waste.
