I am still looking to buy one type of suv/jeep.
I was in Isuzu Laredo and Cherokee also but I really like the reliability of Toyota also. Even a 4 cyl. can be very strong and at worst it can be replaced with a V6.
Pathfinder 1987
4Runner 1986
How do they compare, they seem pretty much the same to me?
I know they are 20YO but that's what I am looking for .
Before the real estate I also worked as a mechanic and auto body worker for nearly 10 years.
What do you think?
Thanks

If I were getting a 4 wheel drive that old, I would go with the Toyota. Their older 4x4's were badass.
The 4Runner is up for sale, I just put a pic of a pathfinder in order for you to compare both.
They almost look alike from the outside plus they are from the same cie Toyota. That's my question...What is the difference? Under the hood, driving it, suspension?
I will meet the owner with his 4Runner problably tomorrow.
What are the most common points to look for? Beside milleage, rust. Is there a common problem with them, as transmission. clutche, I don't mind about details like AC or windows malfunction but differencial and the like. I think this one has an independant front suspension...Any problems with it?
I believe they did a fine job demonstrating how much Toyota's rock on Top Gear: http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/downloads/
Check out the Toyota Hilux video. :icon14:
The early model 4Runners like the one above are basically Hilux's with removable tops, they were actully called the Hilux Surf in other countires. :icon14:
I have a 90' 4Runner, 125,000 Miles, body is rusted to shit, but she can still tow like a motherfucker. :icon14:
+JuggerNaut+ wrote:definitely suspension/transmission. since it's lifted you know the guy USED it like a truck. check the motor mounts too.
Yeah I think that since it is lifted those must be non standard and thus if the job to customising them was not done properly ( we are not in Calif.) They have to be checked.

Do you have the independant front wheels on yours?

Yes, not so good for very rough off roading. :/
Thanks I could finally see the video. They are really testing it to the extreme.
Just worried about the lifthing though It's not big foot and I think that it might be a bit fragile even if I am not planning to do off road with it, plus might be insecure in a rought turn to balance, flip over, even though I don't drive fast. Is that right that it weight more than 4000 pounds?
then you probably think Cherokees look terrible altogether. except for the possibility of last year's (or this) Cherokee, they look the same. i think Grand Cherokees are even uglier.

A friend of mine had some kind of Limited Edition 2003ish Black Cherokee and it looked bad ass. I just meant it looked like it was in pretty poor shape. The bumper is rusted at the mounts and the body appears to be rusting all the way around.
