Help with firefox?

Post by andyman »

I tried to open firefox and it had a window that asked what profile I want to use. It wouldn't let me pick default so i had to make a new one, and now it is like i just installed the damn thing.

Anyone know how to change it back?

The firefox profile is stored in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
In there should be a folder with a garbled name. This is your profile. If it got wiped out (in a crash, or you fucked with the directory) then it's probably gone for good.

This should have been in T&T, BTW.

Make sure firefox isn't running in the process list (task manager) when you close it, if it is, end that task and you should be good.

To switch back profiles run firefox -p in the run dialog.

Backup the folders first:

DRIVE:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

DRIVE:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

If you made a new profile, you probably have 2 folders in there now. You need to delete the folder pertaining to this new profile, and leave the default one. Not 100% sure which one will be which as the folder names are a bunch of jibberish. But do some guesswork and eliminate the profile you don't want.
