Why is Quake4 such a system hogger!!
Why is Quake4 such a system hogger!!
I've tweaked my Q4 to look like my Q3. Infact it looks almost identical.
Now I start to wonder... if the gfx look similar and the gameplay is similar, then why do I get 1000 more fps in Q3?
Its not the graphics..
Its not the netcode..
So what kind of spyware is going on here.

Yes, and Counterstrike is a very old game. In order to see CS in all it's glory at the time it was originally released, you needed to have a fairly recent PC.Jenny wrote:Alot of people don't play Q4 due to their low spec computers.
Counterstrike 1.6 is played by millions because its runs good on any old system.
Same is true of all games. Q3 runs super fast on my PC now, but it crawled on the PC I had when that game was first released.
To an extent, I'm like you. I didn't play Doom3 when it first came out, because my system couldn't handle it (PIII450). I eventually upgraded to a PC made after the turn of the millenium, and now I can run D3 and Q4.
For those that have a 2.0ghz and below can feel free to contiue to play Counterstrike and Quake3, as well as the numerous mods made for them. But read reviews....if a new game were to come out right now with the same engine as Counterstrike, it wouldn't stand a chance.
There are still viable communities for Q1, Q2 and Q3, so for those that either can't or don't wish to upgrade their PC to handle D3 or Q4, they have tons of options.
But it's silly to expect developers to continue developing on 5-8 year old technology.
