New LCD screen, non-conforming pixel

Post by obsidian »

Well, I finally bought myself a nice new 20" LCD monitor (my first) and it just arrived a couple of hours ago. So far, this monitor is amazing, no bluring, or anything but I do have a single non-conforming pixel. It's not really noticable unless I'm looking at a white background with my face plastered against the screen. It's sitting in the bottom left corner, stuck on red.

Is a single non-conforming pixel for a monitor this size acceptable? In other words, should I bother exchanging it or is it pretty much a given?

Up to you really, I wouldn't put up with a stuck pixel on a brand new monitor. If you want to exchange it check your warranty, I think most companies would let you exchange it if you have about 5 or more stuck/dead pixels.

Don't bother trying to free the stuck pixel with stuff you find on google, it's all rubbish.

Sounds like a broken sub-pixel (red all the time means the green and blue components of the pixel are broken). I wager no company will exchange the monitor, you usually need 7 to 10 faulty sub-pixels for that.

Wasn't it Samsung that* recently announced a zero dead pixel policy, and that they would replace a panel for even 1 broken pixel?

Well NewEgg has a policy of 8 dead pixels. Right now at the office we have a viewsonic 17" and it doesn't have any, that I noticed. There are however a few on my PSP, 2 I think, I only notice them during startup, when it is all while, or when the screen goes black in a movie or game, otherwise I don't notice much.

You know it could be just a stuck pixel right? run a video of red blue and green colors flashing rapidly over the pixel for 20-30 mins and see if it unsticks, I had a similar problem with an lcd screen I had and my psp, both are fixed now

It can do. Some decry it as a hoax.

On the flip side, some claim it could damage your monitor permanently.

If Bacon has used one sucessfully then I see no reason to disbelieve him.

I've used the Pixel Unsticker for my PSP and it got some stuck pixels, but I have two or so dead ones that it did not do anything for
