I have concluded something about quake 4
I have concluded something about quake 4
I will admit that quake 4 is the only game that I've looked forward to playing. With that out of the way, I've been dissappointed by alot of games recently. Half life 2 bored me, so did UT 2004, Tribes 2, and Tribes vengeance. In fact, I've been playing Quake 3 since 1999, nothing matched it(only yesterday I remembered my computer can handle more than "medium" settings, boy was my face red). It has even remained in the top 10 games played in Gamespy stats(suck on that UT and UT2003 fanboys)
What I'm trying to get at is this: The majority of FPS players HATE the quake series and id software. Remember all the hate for quake 2's orange and brown textures? What the fuck is that about? I remember friends of mine(shit i was in highschool back then even) ridiculing quake for its lack of "futuristic maps". wah wah wah its too gothic! The damn UT vs quake argument has been around for ages, most media siding with UT.
So now I look at all the good games id has made, and I look at all the good games Raven has made. I watch the IGN in game videos, and I notice how much people have hated quake throughout the years. You know what? I'm GLAD pc gamer gave it a 70%. I just know the game won't be Half life 2, UT2004, or Painkiller. It'll be what I want it to be, a quake game.
So fuck all the skeptics, I'm picking this up with my eyes closed!

Don't you wanna look at the box?

Theres a few reasons. Realistic weapons, and physics seem to be the in thing right now. People don't take the time to realize it's depth. Games like counterstrike offer instant gratification, no movement tricks, much easier to play. People are blinded by features, such as vehicles, alt fire, and think those components are needed to make a great mp game.
I think pcgamer gave quake 3 an 80%, and UT a 93%, or some shit. With UT, it might just take one sit down to properly review it, everything is pretty much up front, and pumped full of features and gimmicks. Q3 is the experience that keeps on giving. There are so many natural movement tricks, and the balance is so perfect. It takes a while to truely understand, and appreciate it.
