mp3 player

Any good? Should I worry about copyright issues? Is the price reasonable for a 1gb mp3 player?

With the student discount, the nano is still a little much for me.

If I can get the Rio Carbon cheaper, I'd prefer it over the nano.

they are good. bit of a pain with file transfer because it re-indexes when you disconnect it from the pc - with a lot of files that can take a while. but it's small, hardwearing and produces a decent enough sound. battery life is fine as well.

The Rio Carbon 5gb seems like a solid unit, for a good price.

Another vote from me for a creative product.

I chose my zen over an iPod, and then a mate of mine exchanged his ipod for my zen for a day to hear the difference. He was very reluctant to give my zen back.

One vote here against Creative's line.

If it goes wrong, their support is appalling, and they send you out used items as replacements.

i'd have to agree here, although i wish i didn't. they sound excellent and the UI is good (not great), but my experience with several Creative products in the past and their lack of customer service left me on bad terms with them.

I've owned Creative products since i had an old soundblaster 16, god knows how many years ago.

I dont know, I must be one of those lucky people. Everytime i've phoned them up they've been very helpful to me. When i had a 4.1 speaker system from them, i phoned them up and mentioned I lost my volume controler and plug for it, they sent me some for free, hehe.

Guess its a marmite company, either love or hate, but buying creative products from years and years ago, i can say when i hear their name it means good quality.

What about the 20gb and 30gb models of Creative mp3 players (not the jukebox models)? The mini-brick shaped units. Are they any good?

The brick mp3 players from Creative apparently don't shield their HDs well from shock. If their support is as bad as you say, when they crap out, you could be out of luck.

What's the word on refurbished items?

You mean like one of these?

If it is, then I have one. The touch pad is a little tricky to get used to but afterwards its fine.

Sound quality is superb and battery life is 24hours.

No sir, that's a nice unit, but I'm talking about the Jukebox Zen Xtras (if I recall correctly).

Impressive, real world results?

24 hours seems like a stretch for a full size HD mp3 player, fission powered?
