in the old days, games got tested to no edn as well. nowadays they release it first and complete it later
fucking 120mb patches n the like. homophobic i tell you
and every game is expected to have a new bigger-n-better engine. since FPSs are the most basic games out there (most of the time) a lot of companies will use their wonderengine for [just another fps game].
as long as the pictures on the back of the case look nice its ok
So, I was all excited about
I still play a lot of old games and still enjoy them quite well. Of couse though I don't mind a game looking dated. I guess a part of it is your attitude toward it. I don't think it's nostalgia so much either. I can play old games that I've never played before and enjoy myself. Maybe people are becoming too hard to please, kinda like a junkie. The little bit just doesn't do it anymore.

C&C Zero Hour is great... Sadly there's a solid roof on the learning curve, but getting there is still very enjoyable.
The problem with most games nowadays is that the online community is diluted extremely thinly across hundreds of games, unlike over just a few titles as it used to be.

Meh... I bought my PSP, had fun, then it got stale... Then somebody released the 1.50 downgrader, and bam, I have emulators... Now guess what I play most of it
Old games are the best. They were fucking addictive, and simple. Look at Quake World, as simple as they come, but far far far more better than most.

I dunno.
I'm belatedly enjoying 'Prince of Persia Warrior Within' right now.
(great atmos and awesome graphics, still)
Also having a good time playing 'Ultimate Spiderman'.
(The art direction is very well done and web-slinging is teh ownage, when you get it down, controls being fiddly, especially since my third and fourth mouse-button aren't detected)
Those games have these redeeming qualities for me.
But I *do* share the sense of a certain ennui.
I tried F.E.A.R. and Serious Sam 2 and COD2 and what not, and they didn't invoke the same excitement I felt when I played their predecessors.
Well, if it really gets to you, I suppose suicide is always an option :icon14:
