You can unlock one weapon with every new rank, which is totally gay, IMO. Especially because it's 10,000 points to make corporal, so you're stuck with your first unlock for a LOOOOOONG time.
Someone posted a chart recently that breaks down all the weapon accuracies and damage amounts. The L85A1 is THE LEAST ACCURATE weapon in the game.
But anyway, each class has one weapon unlock. You can view them in-game by going to BFHQ and poking around.

As you get new ranks, you get to choose a new weapon.[FTF]Pyro wrote:So this upgrade stuff explain how it worksNightshade wrote:FFS NO! Don't get that crap L85A1, it's the shittiest gun in the game.
Get the G36C or one of the shotties, depending on which class you play more.
You need
1000 for 1st unlock
10500 for 2nd unlock
25000 for 3rd unlock
50000 for 4th unlock
and so on.

also - how big of a difference do the different guns make in terms of damage? for example an upgraded spec ops gun vs the standard one...?
I swear to christ I'll unload 2 clips into a guy and then get hit 1 time and lose all my health over and over again. headshots are on thing, but ffs sometimes its ridiculous.
Another thing - the way the upgrade system works, the players who play the most, who have the most skill and experience, are also the ones who get the best weapons to use...seems a bit backward. I agree that the upgrade system is ridiculous...sticking you with your first upgrade for almost 10x as many points as you took to get it...

I got it from bf2tracker.com. They're a web site that taps into the BF2 stat server and supply you with alternate means to view your scores and other people's scores. So yes, is does tie into the game. It's not always up to date, but it's close.[FTF]Pyro wrote:YourGrandpa wrote:Those are the points needed to advance your rank.
I dont mean what your post said I meant the BF2 sig
whgere did you get it from
does it tie into the actual game
etc etc etc

The ranking system is going to change with the next patch.tnf wrote:also - how big of a difference do the different guns make in terms of damage? for example an upgraded spec ops gun vs the standard one...?

Honestly, not that much. They help a little, and can be better in different situations (Anti-Tank upgrade is a shotty instead of a submachine gun). It's not enough to make someone suddenly be getting better scores. That's what teamwork is needed for.tnf wrote:also - how big of a difference do the different guns make in terms of damage? for example an upgraded spec ops gun vs the standard one...?
That's because you're missing the guy.tnf wrote:I swear to christ I'll unload 2 clips into a guy and then get hit 1 time and lose all my health over and over again. headshots are on thing, but ffs sometimes its ridiculous.
Seriously, it's not that he can do much more damage per shot (unless he's got a shotgun, or something). Practic, compensate for ping, but not the same as
The numbers the ranks are based on is a bit off. Rarely do you see people above Corporal or Sargeant. The 1.3 patch should address some of these and other issues to balance it out some to rank up quicker, amongst some weapon and vehicle balancing issues.tnf wrote:Another thing - the way the upgrade system works, the players who play the most, who have the most skill and experience, are also the ones who get the best weapons to use...seems a bit backward. Or you could use one like mine and have it actually be smaller than your posts.YourGrandpa wrote:I got it from bf2tracker.com. Mine is through http://bf2s.com/
It updates every time you visit your stats on their page, but takes about 20-24 hours from the time you visit the stats. So I visit it once per day and my stats are always within 24 hours old.
edit:
P.S. You're catching up to me, Gramps. I better go play a couple Blackhawk rounds.
Also why the fuck is a Gunship like the blackhawk easier to fly than an Attack Chopper. I mean really. Also what is with some of the planes in the game. Some of the planes carry 6 missles and 2 bombs........ what the fuck is that all about.
I dont really like the planes that much at all, but its fun too see my PC cough, sttuer and die before I crash into a building, tree or part of the landscape that wasnt there 2 seconds before
*goes to check config* yup turning geometry and textures down seems to help
Also on the subject of the whole upgrade your weapons thing, Does that mean that if I upgrade the weapon I take it into a multiplayer game against other people that dont have the same type of weapon system upgraded (Seems a bit drawkcab)

Yes, you get to choose from any of the weapons you've unlocked, plus the ones you started with in multiplayer games.[FTF]Pyro wrote:Also why the fuck is a Gunship like the blackhawk easier to fly than an Attack Chopper. Yea, but here's the thing - I am prone 20 feet from a guy standing still with his back facing me...I will laser sight him in the middle of the back and unload 3 quick rounds, adjusting for kick. He'll have time to calmly turn around, reload, aim, and kill me in 2 clicks.Psyche911 wrote: That's because you're missing the guy.

It just doesn't make sense in many cases. I'll get the guy dead balls centered in my sights, and can't hit a fucking thing while he'll take me out extremely quickly.
It's not at all like quake, where there seems to actually be some relationship between quick reflexes, good aim, and hitting someone - and I know that with the modelling of 'realistic' things like spray, kick, etc., you aren't going to have quake physics...but ffs, if I am playing as a special forces officer I'd like to be able to sprint more than 20 meters or so without pooping out and be able to kill a guy who I sneak up behind and shoot in the back before he has time to stand up and turn around. Those are the kills I don't get...and my ping is 50ish.
ah well...
I'm starting over, as I said before....
yea, i finally quit tonight because i got so sick of spawn rapes, artillery drops, and fuckers spamming the grenade launcher...[FTF]Pyro wrote:I'm usually middle of the pack too. I dunno, I kill folk, then I die, , repeat.tnf wrote:starting over with a new profile now.
i'm getting better - able to be at least middle of the pack each game now....
still not a good pilot.
it's fun, but i really miss the glory days of quake3.

Well done you learned how to beat Crash on hurt me plenty, notice the word "learned". You cant learn how to beat a human opponent, well ones that any good because its a reactionary thing, they'll move to counter your move and so the dance begins......
BF2 is a good game when played as a "single player" (that means on your own over the internet with other people) but its probably a whole lot better with people that you know and playing games that dont rely on sheer and utter luck of the draw regarding who you are playing with or against and with people that neither listen to you or tell you things.
Its the exact same as Halo 2 - That game is really good online but once you know all the moves, know where and how to get the flags, where and how to get the bomb in etc it becomes mundane. However, Halo 2 took about 7 months for that to happen (and that was me WHORING it everyday for 4 - 5 hours) I'll be happy if I get 4 - 5 months out of this game before I finally quit.
But then working under the assumption that I can hook up at some point with some of the BF2 players on here or some other Website then it might last a little longer since it will be Played as a team game rather than a ME versus everyone not wearing my colour of uniform game.
