Too much money for a hobby

Post by Giraffe }{unter »

About a month ago I sold my old Dj equipment on eBay for about $400.00. I then went out and purchased what I thought would be an awesome new toy for $730.00 the SL-DZ1200, but it's starting to piss me off.

To get it to do what I want (play Mp3s from and SD card) I have to spend.

79.00 for 1gig SD
119.00 for proprietary software to protect the mp3s on the card

so I started trying to work around it by getting this virtual DJ software and timecode CD, but to get this to work almost the way I want I need to spend:

149.00 for a maya44 ASIO USB Sound
129.00 for virtual DJ software
169.00 for the road case
---------------
$447.00 on top of the $730.00 for the CD Player

Fuck that! I'm pretty pissed at Technics for requiring you to pat an additional 119.00 for encryption software just so you can play mp3s from an SD card.

So if I return the unit I loose $100.00 since I had it for 30 days, but for $249.00 I can get a DJ console that does all I want and also gives me 3 additional audio inputs and comes with the software I want and a freakin road case.

+400.00 old Dj equipment
-100.00 Loss on the SL-DZ1200 restock fee
-249.00 USB DJ Console
-000.00 Console Road Case (included)
-000.00 DJ Software (included)

So all in all it will be a wash after taxes I will have spent no money to get the console, it's like an even swap I guess..

If I sell the SL-DZ1200 on ebay I also loose about $75.00 - $100.00 but gain the headache of selling it on eBay.

If it does all you want and you end up even go for it.

Never used Ebay to sell anything so have no idea how much work that would be.

You can modify the firmware within the unit, but AkAIK there are no working versions.

Also with a unit that you would use on live gigs you do not want it running some half asses firmware.

There is a hacked version of "Real Player" that you can use, but you need a specific SD reader made by panasonic to write to the SD Card.
