"She was educated in Templin and at the University of Leipzig, where she studied physics (1973-1978). Merkel worked and studied at the Central Institute for Physical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences (1978-1990). After graduating with a doctorate in physics she worked in quantum chemistry."

Hm, to be honest, I never read so much about her pre-political career like in that link above - that's quite a lot. Even in the tv documentaries that I saw about her, there wasn't much more information than 1. she studied physics and 2. she married early.

But if I find some links, I'll post them here ...
