Wow, the way they "rate" games is fucking stupid...

"ESRB rating system currently works by publishers submitting a detailed questionnaire alongside videotaped footage of "the most extreme content and an accurate representation of the context" for each game."

Problem is, what's the best way of rating a game?

To have someone sit down and play the whole thing through would cost a lot of money.

Also, if the ESRB finds something objectionable which it was not informed about, shit hits fan.

Games aren't like movies in that you sit and watch 120 mins and you've seen it all.

Also
"Fully disclosing hidden content accessible as Easter eggs and via cheat codes has always been part of ESRB's explicitly stated requirements when submitting games to be rated.
if this really is a requirement, then I dont see how it's simply a case of a short video.

"ESRB remains concerned about third party modifications that undermine the accuracy of the original rating, and we are exploring ways to maintain the credibility of the rating system with consumers in light of modifications of this nature."
I don't care about that other shit, THIS IS THE PART THAT CONCERNS ME MOST

I have seen several news clips posted at Q3W over the past few years that seem to warn of intention to stop us from modding quality games like Q3A, Doom, RTCW, Morrowind etc..., but it never comes around.

Although game creators like John Carmak continue to try to invent games that are mod friendly for the sake of personalization and such.
But I figure eventually the love of profits will cause the game studios that back and market the game creators will cause them to find a way to get us to have to pay for the ability to mod.
Also as with all controlled "For Profit" products and services the purchased ability to mod will come with a load of rules and regulations.

I HOPE this is never the case though. :icon26:
Uh, well....good luck with that.

Wait a minute... Games don't HAVE to get an ESRB rating, do they?

No, but many retailers will not carry an unrated game.
