First R520 benchmarks!

Post by Psyche911 »

http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1813.1/

Seems they weren't in good favor with ATi and didn't get in on the sample cards. But that means they didn't have to sign an NDA and got a X1800 XT by other means. This means they are (semi)legally able to provide benchmarks before anyone else. But just in case I saved the pages to my disk just incase they get forced to remove them. :)

It looks decent, but maybe not quite as good as nVidia's cards. I just hope there's a price war, otherwise I wont be getting either. :(

i'm sorry, i refuse to beleve that they are the real numbers.. the X1800 Pro is ~8% Slower then The X850.. yea.. cmon.

Eather The drivers do not have full support, or this is bougus.

ATI: You've lost the lead.

Their last really good card was the 9700.

All of them say the X1800 Pro is faster than the X850? :paranoid:

if you look at the charts, the X850 XT PE is faster then the X1800 PRO, i understand that the Xt PE is the king shit, But the Next gen card should be atleast a little faster ( even if its only 10fps )
Wile the X1800XT is only ~15% faster then the X850XT PE, This is reletivly disapointing, and i dont feel that this is the final virsion of the card, that would only mean that ATI reboxed the X850 with Full "insert name here" support and called it "Next Gen"

As far back as i can remember, they only do that with there Mid/low end or value cards ( Remember the Radeon 9000, 9100, 9200 series? ALL 8500's! )

Bah, anyway, i'll wait untill the Offical reviews come out with full ATI Backing..

btw, memph, as much as this really hurts to say man, you have everyright to hate ATI, the shit you've been through with them is fucking nuts. and i would do the same.
there allways seems to be people that don't have a single problem ( I.E ME ) wile there are others that have all the problems in the world with them. ( I.E. You )

i'm not sure what it is, and i'm not sure whats doing it... but it makes no logical sence.

Do you realise you have an easier time swallowing benchmark numbers fed to you by websites which are 'priveledged' to receive 'demo' hardware from companies, than you do from someone who subverted the hardware companies to obtain them?

Does it occur to you how much of a sucker you must be? Even if these are fake, your perspective on benchmarking is that of a fucking fool.

without sounding like a fanboy you can't take these benchies to seriously. who knows which drivers they are using. what ive read is ati is currently working hard on getting drivers optimized for realease. it's a totally new piece of hardware, it will only get better.

so foo your reasoning is flawed. a website who is out to dis ati for not giving them a review sample is unbiased?

anyways, there is alot more info to be had about this card before coming to conclusions. basing it's performance on a few benches of old games without any info on the new features it brings would be foolish.

They'll all run the fucking game just fine. You are all fools, getting all nit-picky about petty FPS differences.

Radeon drivers I've used in the past have been nothing short of apaulling. It also seems to be pure luck of the draw as to whether their cards actually work at all in your system.
One card works fine in one machine, yet crashes another randomly. And these machines could be the same spec right down to the bloody case.

I'm just glad my rig is riding Nvidia once again and I can actually play a game start to finish without glitches, crashes and 27 driver reinstalls.
pretty much. i will never buy another ati card. if for some unfathomable reason they end up being the only company to sell video cards i will just stop playing pc games.

I've never had an nVidia card. In part, because they didn't make GPUs for Macs when I had a Mac. Then when I built this PC I went for the current top GPU (9800 Pro). I've had four ATi cards (one of them was a PC card flashed to run in a Mac) and have never had a single problem. I've always enjoyed their hardware.

However, if these benchmarks are correct, I would not be buying an ATi card any time soon.

Some things people have argued that I found very interesting are the following:

R520 experienced many delays due to either the new architecture, moving to a 90nm process, or both. These delays have most likely closed the gap between the R520 release and R580 release. If the R580 does have a larger number of pipelines with similar performance per pipeline, it will most likely kick the 7800 series' ass. In most of the tests nVidia doesn't have a large lead. ATi going from 16 > 24 pipes or maybe even 32 pipes would certainly offer a large lead over nVidia.

So, at least I hope, this looks like maybe it's leading to the real competition: R580 vs nVidia's next GPU.

But if nothing else, 7800GT prices should get down to or maybe under $300, at which time I'll pick one up. :)

i'll wait for some official benchies before i decide.

from the little i've read on these benchies, they are bs.

if you look at the scaling between the 6800 and 7800 in the tests, they fly in the face of other well known sites. the 850xtpe is in between the 6800gt and 6800 ultra in doom3, but in these benches it's lower than the gt.
just not enough info to be reliable if you have any kind of clue to how real benches are done.

edit: i could search around the net and post some numbers that favour ati and make the 850xtpe come within 10-15% of the 7800gtx at high rez.

but we all know the 7800 gtx is more than 15% faster than 850xt and make no mention of the nifty aa modes the gtx has. in other words it's easy to twist shit around too make one card look better compared to the next.
