HDR is not (fully) implemented into HL2. Nor will it be, as I understand it.

Lost Coast and the soon to be releaed Day of Defeat: Source both feature it in Valve's best implementation.

It seems to me that it's much better in-game and screenshots don't really do it justice. Which is good, because this makes it look a bit like shit.
