according to a newly released CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll. More blacks than whites said they were angry about the government's response to Katrina, 76 percent to 60 percent, and President Bush is one target of their ire.

What I find surprising is that we derive from this that 40% of people in the poll were not angry about the government response to Katrina.
I mean, the response to Katrina was a fuck up. Everyone and their mum can see that far. Whether we lay the blame with Nagin, bush, god, whoever, it's clear the system failed in some way and the system is the government's responsibility (at what level of government isn't really relevent to this point).
Yet 40% weren't angry about that.
That's fucked up.

Not surprising and not terribly informative either. The suggestion that race/class played into the whole mess is out there and constant (if not argued for, then at least mentioned as a possibility). Many whiteys tend to recoil at the idea that differential treatment of this type could exist, so they would be likely to under report dissatisfaction when some random dickwad calls them up to chat about Katrina. Different lenses.
edit: the 'meaning' of the figures also depend on what the other response options were.
would be nice if they included, in these polls or the coverage of them, info on whether there was a correlation between dissatisfaction and "keeping abreast of the events".
Are you satisfied with the response? Yes/No
Do you live under a boulder? Yes/No

What's to be angry about? Its to be expected at this point with the kind of leadership we've had.

There are peple in this country who, upon hearing that the race card is coming into play, will immediately say they are satisfied, because they feel like they are defending against some kind of 'liberal affirmative action conspiracy' that is trying to paint the disaster as a race issue.
After doing quite a bit of reading on the subject, I've decided I don't think it should be given such massive attention above other genocides that have occcurred in the last 100 years, but I wouldn't call the holocaust itself a 'facade.'
