Microsoft: ‘We’ve been killing PC gaming’

heh, no shit. with the horrid API in current windows, all your new hardware gets wasted. take the xbox for example, 64 megs of shared ram between the cpu and gpu. take a look at the games produced for it. sure the res is low and textures are blurry but overall, ounce for ounce it destroys pc's for gaming.

i for one would like a choice when i game. do i want msn, icq, a couple dozen windows tasks running in the background or do i want to take full advantage of my hardware. what i'm getting at is i would like a switch that would put my pc in "xbox mode".

i think this is kinda what MS will be marketing with Vista for gaming.

"And the publishing community is also throwing its weight behind the push, with the major publishers even redesigning their PC boxes to flag up Games for Windows in a similar way to console format branding."

Yay... More multicoloured cases random shit...

Whats wrong with PCCD ROM on the top of my case...

Yes, they've killed PC gaming by forcing tons of games onto the XBox (see Halo as a prime example)

Games get dumbed down to make them compatible to console gaming.

:dork:
all thousands of fps' engine-techdemo's are quite complex in terms of gameplay, indeed

Actually no. Look at 3Dmark 05. It shits all over the Unreal engine 3 and it runs on today's hardware.

The problem for PC games are the masses of console gamers with below-room-temperature IQ. They're the ones that are killing the PC gaming experience-

PC games used to be more complex than console games. Now that everything gets made for console first, of course everyone's getting a console. And in turn no one makes games exclusive to PCs anymore.

How many complex simulations are there for consoles again? Oh, none? Ok.

lots of things still come out on PC first, at least where it counts. FPS and RTS are still lodged in the PC field.

As for Windows being a bloat, I don't see it. Linux isn't touted as being faster for gaming, even for games which are native OpenGL and not DirectX.

im sure games like advance wars and all those games based on puzzlesolving and characterbuilding are indeed colored gray by the many games with prolonged life only through 'more maps' or 'deathmatch' ;)

Yeah, but they're declining. And why? Because you can't port them to consoles, thus you're making less money by developing a game that's too complex for consoles.
