They object to high fuel prices, so they make sure fuel prices are going to be incredibly high for a short period of time? What's the gain here?

Last time they did it the country pretty much stopped dead. (blocking main roads etc). So, I'd imagine the Government would be not wanting this to happen again due to the hassle it caused.

Ah, hmm. But still, i imagine the goverment will get their money from somewhere else if they'll agree to a oil tax cut...

They already do. :(. VAT at 17.5% on most things we buy, import tax, etc. We're currently being charged about 70% tax on fuel, so with prices at £1 a litre we're paying £0.70 to the government for nothing.

we've had 17.5% VAT for the longest time. its 19% nowadays :o

Here in the States, the gas tax has been "the fastest-growing federal tax imposed on middle-income Americans over the past 20 years," according to the Cato Institute.

I hate quoting them or using their work, but they are right on some things.
