Hi guys. For those of you unaware, there has been a really nice Half-Life 2 mod in the works called Minerva.
It's based in the same universe as Half-Life 2, presumably during the same time as Gordon's exploits (and the forthcoming Aftermath expansion pack).
The plot is very cryptic at this point, but revolves around the PC and his/her relationship with an "Op" coaching them through missions that are against the combine, but not affiliated with the resistance either. The person instructing you seems to have their own agenda independent of both. The production values are TOP RATE, and the development is actually recieving input and support from Valve. Greg Coomer and Robin Walker are confirmed to have had input on the development.
Anyway, the first episode (level) was released yesterday, and I got a chance to play through it today, and it is FANTASTIC. This is a MUST PLAY for anyone who loves HL2 and the Half-Life universe overall.
Here's the links:
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/MINERVA - Valve's Developer Wiki on the project. Has a good download mirror.
http://www.hylobatidae.org/minerva/ - The official site with some plot exposition (if cryptic) and another DL link.
And some screens to get you juiced:
Enjoy all!

this isn't a bad piece of work at all, well-constructed and some nice unusual uses of models (those silver washing machines embedded into the pipes for example). the intro with the chopper was a nice use of viewcontrol
my one major beef though was the size of the level. this really should have been 2 levels (one above, the other below) rather than one. the initial load time was slow as hell, even by HL2 standards
i think what dragged it down wasn't so much what was in it as what *wasn't* in it. there was no interesting use of physics, which meant the gameplay seemed very old skool with enemies just appearing around the corners. plus it wasn't clear how this fitted into the HL universe even thought it was obvious it was supposed to. finally, the on-screen messages would have been better as in-suit audio. it annoyed me having to stop to read what was mostly just verbose crap with a few hints sprinkled about
overall though it's the best SP mission mod i've played so far, way better than 'day hard' or 'das roboss'
