good freeware spreadsheet programs?
good freeware spreadsheet programs?
Per topic... I am looking for a good freeware spreadsheet program as an alternative to Windows Excel. I don't want to use Excel because 1) I don't own it, 2) don't want to pay for it, and 3) don't no anyone that owns it so I can't steal their copy.
Surely there has to be something out there?
Thanks in advance.

You're right, it did evolve from it.r3t wrote:As far as I know, OpenOffice evolved from Star Office. In fact, I believe Star Office is the commercial version of OpenOffice?Foo wrote:Same as saying MS office and OpenOffice are the same product.
They are both office suites and they both have similar components.
However I don't think it's based on the latest StarOffice codebase, so they've forked.
I could go back to it and be surprised to find they're more similar than I remember, but it's been a long time since using StarOffice.

I like how Openoffice 'Base' is slowing starting to behave like MS Access. It's still missing a lot of features, but it will be very nice once it reaches and hopefully surpasses the functionality of MS Access.
yea i've too been kind of thinking about maybe a new sig but sort of haven't come to quite a decision yet

My understanding is that open office uses the same open source stardard that MS uses for its files ( OASIS ), its just that MS wraps it up in proprietary software. My understanding is that office 12 is supposed to open this open source compatibility issue.

I guess since MS are going the XML route (or that was the last I heard) the proprietary problems could soon be gone. Maybe I'm being a bit optimistic.
