That the account got locked does not strike me. However, there is nothing wrong with fundraisers for whatever cause. In general, fundraisers encourage competition and mass support.

You can learn more about the reasons at somethingawful.com and slashdot.org. By going through paypal, lowtax could keep a running track of the total donated, and he could also get shipping addresses, since he was planning to send out free merchandise to those who donated.

Seeing the PR disaster this is turning out to be, it looks like somethingawful is going to be an exception among 'frozen accounts' and will actually be getting some customer service
