About a Quake 4 forum..

Post by reefsurfer »

Just gotta ask..

It seems to me that ID never have any official game forums/boards for their games.. i like going to the game i just bought forums to check out what people think andget tips etc.. thats how i found this place.

But this place was made by Gamespy right?
So will gamespy make a Quake4world board? Or is it possible for the admins here to change it for Quake4world?
Where are you guys going for Q4 talk?

I guess we can all go to ravensoft forums where there is a tiny section for Q4... but that wont be the same..
or there can be a q3 discussion part on here, just like the D3 forum whcih died after a few weeks...

just had to ask this.

thx.

I'll stick with this place. This seems to be the only place with a decent number of id fans present.

We'll have to see if id will add a new community link a la q3 once the game hits the shelves.

There will probably be a Quake 4 sub-forum here when the game ships. Things don't have to change. Also, I think this forum was a joint-venture between id and gamespy. The game used to use their matchmaking stat's system... wait, I mean between MPlayer and id, before gamespy bought MPlayer. That's why there are links to this board in the Q3 start menu as well as MPlayer install links.

Do you think this time we will get proper online ranking and stats ala UT2kX and BF2?

I would lvoe to log onto a site and see my over all accuracy, awards, frags and stuff.

I wouldn't. It's pointless ego masterbation.

All that matters is how you play in any given match. How many of your slugs have hit flesh isn't important.

Quake3world was originally set up by id Software as far as I know. At one point it went to gamespy though.

I think it's IGN now actually. At least based on the reports raw posted a few times (like needing to email IGN to get ftp access and such). I'm sure they could pull the plug if someone was to complain of illicit activities.

Rubbish. The UT2004 statistics system is used to track the Jolt ONS league, for one thing. Second, it's a useful feature to record the happenings of a match, much like the demo systems are.

Second, pitching off against some friends in a stats war is a great way to check where your missing some skills.

Mplayer made a deal with id, and started this site. Mplayer was taken over by Gamespy, then Gamespy merged with IGN. IGN is basically the supreme overlord.

This will always be quake3world, but once q4 comes out I think im gonna make a q4 sub forum. There wont be any links built into q4, but if we build a comprehensive list of information like the CE and BD forum, google should do the rest to bring in new members for us to flame and degrade, thus ensuring our survival.

It'd be interesting if id then in turn bought IGN or something.

The guys over at Doom3world.org have already registered the domain:"Quake4world.org", which, if you would go to it now, will redirect you to Doom3world.org. So they are fully prepared for when the game ships.

Our own site http://www.leveldesign.nl has it's own Quake4 section and will support the game to the fullest, with contests and a own dedicated server in the future.

Plus you always have this site to stick with ;) So as you can see, plenty of choices where you can go when the game ships!

quake4world.com used to say it will be the official page. I just don't know how much truth there is to that.

I won't go near a site that's in some way affiliated with doom3world.

There is no truth in that, because it's a fact that it's registered to the owner of Doom3world.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your beef with them?

Leveldesign.nl stands on it's own and is thus far not affiliated to anyone. You probably have the same here, but I created a content sticky for related Quake 4 material. Perhaps some of you peeps have some stuff to add? You can find it here. Be sure to check out the high definition Xbox360 trailer, awesome stuff!
