In 2001, FEMA warned that a hurricane striking New Orleans was one of the three most likely disasters in the U.S. But the Bush administration cut New Orleans flood control funding by 44 percent to pay for the Iraq war.
...
The Bush administration's policy of turning over wetlands to developers almost certainly also contributed to the heightened level of the storm surge. In 1990, a federal task force began restoring lost wetlands surrounding New Orleans. Every two miles of wetland between the Crescent City and the Gulf reduces a surge by half a foot. Bush had promised "no net loss" of wetlands, a policy launched by his father's administration and bolstered by President Clinton. But he reversed his approach in 2003, unleashing the developers. The Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency then announced they could no longer protect wetlands unless they were somehow related to interstate commerce.
BUT AT LEAST THE REBUILDING WORK WILL STIMULATE THE LOCAL ECONOMY EH
Bush is the most fucktarded vacationing leader this country has ever had. Just stop for a moment and consider ALL of the BS that has occured under his watch - would be enough for a guillotine chop most other places in the world.
GG stupid Red[state]neck bible thumping evangelical assmunglers and your moral vs. practical highground.
Go back to sucking Moores cock JulesWinnfield. This is not a new occurance that arrived with the Bush administration. It's been happening with the republican party since...forever.

There was a project underway in New Orleans whose purpose it was to strengthen the levee that now has a 2-block hole in it, so it could withstand a category 5 hurricane. Bush cut the federal funding for the project by such an enormous amount that it had to be scrapped.
One thing I want to ask some of these zealots who still support him...
If Bush says god told him to attack Osama, and then attack Saddam... If Bush really is blessed by god like these wingnuts seem to think he is -- then why would he do something like cut hurricane funding for a place that was about to get completely decimated? Or, do they support the decimation of it, and claim that we deserved it for being such a sinful society?
For that matter, I have in fact read of some loopy christians who have said that exact thing - that we deserve it. If that's the case, shouldn't they be considered America haters too?
There are so many hypocritical contradictions in the rising mainstream of our public consciousness the last few years that it makes me sick to think about them.

Not to mention that 'god' sent the hurricane in the first place.

Has there been any fundies saying that its god's revenge for Iraq/gays/Jar Jar Binks?
If it happens to another country they are all fucking clambering over themselves to get to the presses.

That was my point. If god sent the hurricane, how could "god-connected" Bush have cut funding for it?
The only way you're left to explain it is, America is being punished by god. Which I have heard some people say.
As a matter of fact (I think there was even a topic on it), there is a religious group who protests soldiers' funerals, simply because they think the soldiers deserve to die for our and their sins.

Yes, there have. Someone posted a link to it in another thread. N.O. is full of gays, divine retribution, etc., etc.
