quake 4 lost it... id ought to think about quake
quake 4 lost it... id ought to think about quake
categorically, the original quake is still the best to this day
if id expounded on everything that was the original quake
like the ambience/maps/music
they'd be on top
i'll still buy the pos regardless

I think the core of what made Q1 great was that there was a lot more people playing a single game back then, than there are now playing any 1 game.
Maybe there were 10,000 regular internet gamers around the globe when Q1 peaked. Spread across a handful (3 or 4) popular games.
Now, mebbe there's 100,000, but there's 100 or more games all vying for attention. A big chunk still follow Q1, others stuck with Q2, UT, Q3, UT2004.. hell, there's still a dedicated following of SHOGO online enthusiasts.
That's what you want back I think. The ambience, maps and music are just the tangible things you're using to reminisce.

Nah, its just that a PPL engine like Doom 3 creates a certain mood, and that it would of worked shit loads better to remake/Do a follow up to Quake One.
Quake One just had this fantastic edge to it that was so sexy, it could look amazing in an engine like this.
Quake 4 needs to be bright, so thats why there are no shadows, and thats why most of the pics you see are ugly (Outdoor scenes are filled with ambient light to look bright then dotted about point lights, which only change radius around a small space. This means that the skins will mostly be ambient lit, which does not effect specular maps and only lights local maps from the front = Ugly normals).
Quake One Remade would be great, because it WAS dark. So therefore, it would of fitted better i feel.
Then again, after what they have done to some things in Quake 4, you know that they would just change everything you remember anyways. The nailgun would hand splash damage and glow pink and the shambler would be all slimey and shoot fire balls out of his ass...

Yeah, that's what I've been saying... nothing is going to de-thrown Counter-Strike, Quake 4 will be lucky to have a thousand active players.Foo wrote:I think the core of what made Q1 great was that there was a lot more people playing a single game back then, than there are now playing any 1 game.

Wonder if i can sell my copy to some drooling fanboy
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

SHOGO was pure gold and severely underrated. Unluckily for you, copies saturate the market to this day because it was bundled with an entire generation of Graphics cards.SOAPboy wrote:Wait Wait Wait.. People really play Shogo?

If you play it through with the mentality that 'I got this for nothing, anything above nothing I get out of it is a bonus' then you get a lot from it.
If you play it with the typical mentality of 'I need to be wowed by this or it's shit', it fails. Sadly.
Play through a bit and you find the game really has character. As for the multiplayer it's BS, but great if you only have shitty laptops and want a random game to throw down in.
