Any DJs in the house? Technics SL DZ1200

Post by Giraffe }{unter »

I'm currently selling off my old equipment for something I am actually going to use rather than store in the basement. Anyone care to offer some feedback on this unit, I've been playing with them at some local shops and I've tested comparable units by Pioneer, Numark, Denon, and despite the tiny quirks of this unit it actually handles like a turntable.

I'm curious if anyone who owns a set of these found any other little annoyances? Here is a pic so we can all drool at it ;)

I was under the impression from reviews that Pioneer's CDJ1000s (the top of the range one) was the best CD deck out there. Can't really say, haven't tried any myself, though I did see some vids of a guy testing 3 CD decks and the Technics came out worst, especially for scratching. I'll stick with my 1210's though since I only really use them now for sampling and the odd mix to keep my finger in as it were.

I like the feel of the Technics, I grew up on a set of 1200s I used them almost daily for years, I cannot part with the moving direct drive platter :icon32:

I admit the pioneer's were impressive but the motionless jog wheel and the fact that they removed the ability to scratch and push off to start the CD was just ghey.

Nope I am bringing them back into service. They are brand spanking new too. A few years ago just as I put them in storage the movers dropped both road cases and destroyed my old used and abused ones. I got 2 new ones and put them away. I think I am going to bring up a few crates as well and go nuts for a few weeks ;)

I picked up the SL-DZ1200 last night great fun lies ahead

Cool - i must admit it's something i've always wanted to do... playing with stuff like that.

You know, kinda like banging on the drums or flying an airplane.
