Bored and looking for something to do?
Well for the morbidly curious among you... that's all of you... how about spending some time tracking hurricane Katrina as it hits New Orleans?
Tools available:
earth.google.com
Webcams: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=new+orleans+webcam
Educational and time consuming...
Am trying to find a live stream from one of the i10 webcams, is proving difficult. Also trying to locate where the i10 intersects a couple of the other highways because apparently it's jammed up.

but on a more serious note, the south east of the US seems to get fubared by storms every year, and it always makes headline news in the UK in the way that, say, devastating floods in india just don't. and quite frankly, while it must suck bigtime to have your house sucked up into the stratosphere, i'm tired of having my level of compassion dictated by the size of news headlines or the national identity of the victims
Well, i tend to ignore hurricane news, but everyone in the US knows about the situation New Orleans is in being below sea level, which actually makes this a potential disaster of the highest order. The world is so interconnected now-a-days that what affects us will affect Europe too in some way, especially if NO is burried under 15 feet of water.
by the way, i was actually joking anyway. i haven't bothered with the news recently so i don't even know what's going on.
ok, i just checked mid-post and they seem to be evacuating the entire city. i don't really know what level 5 storm looks like but it sounds like bye-bye kansas, hello oz
now probably wouldn't be a good time to mention global warming, kyoto, etc

That image has been foxed up of course. How dramatic is it to have those puny looking little gray bars be the only thing holding water out of NO... and look how high the water is being depicted when in fact NO is just 2 meters below sea level?

There are live network plugins available to drag weather data from various sources. I've currently got some charts overlayed showing the predicted path of the hurricane.[xeno]Julios wrote:how will google earth help? Is it live satellite images????Foo wrote:Tools available:

On top of that, you can cross reference locations from webcasts, locate inner city webcams, and check out the flow of traffic out of the city via the highways and webcams.
