No you don't. Your newspapers are a joke and your news stations do not broadcast news.

Hurricane Katrina is going to be devastating. The news is saying New Orleans could end up 15 to 20 feet under water. Everyone here in Florida caught a break when it passed us with only $1 billion dollars in damage and 1.5 million people out of power as a Cat. 1 hurricane. (If you call that a brake). The storm is now a Cat. 5 with increasing wind speeds. It's going to level everything in it's path, 80 miles wide. I know I'd hate to be watching this thing on the news if my home were in it's path, knowing that it's not going to be there when I got back and the only thing I'd have left is the stuff I could manage to take with me.

This is going to really, really suck for a lot of people.

GL, New Orleans. :icon30:

In an interview later with CNN, the mayor also referred to the potential impact the hurricane could have on the oil supply from the vulnerable area.

"The real issue - that I don't think the nation is paying attention to - is that through the city of New Orleans, through the Gulf of Mexico, we probably deal with almost a third of the nation's domestic oil that is produced. And that will most likely be shut down," Mr. Nagin said.

According to the National Hurricane Center, a Category Five hurricane causes storm surges generally greater than 18 ft above normal, complete roof failure on many residences and industrial buildings. All shrubs, trees, and signs are blown down. Severe and extensive window and door damage can occur. Low-lying escape routes are cut by rising water 3-5 hours before arrival of the center of the hurricane. Major damage to lower floors of all structures located less than 15 ft above sea level and within 500 yards of the shoreline occurs and massive evacuation of residential areas on low ground within 5-10 miles (8-16 km) of the shoreline may be required. This is especially essential in the New Orleans area where most of the city lies below sea level and exists with the help of levees and pumps. To date, only 3 Category Five Hurricanes have made landfall in the United States since records began.

Best of luck guys. It may sound evil but I hope the place does get totally fucked over. I'd like to see the reactions it would cause the following people:

Bush: I'd like to see how he will have to go crawling to the countries he's slapped in the face by going to war against their wishes for financial aid.

Bush Supporters: I'd like to see how these people react when Bush has to dip into their pensions, raise taxes and plunge the nation further into extreme debt to recoop loses.

Fundie Christians: I want to see the reactions of the fundie christians who said those that died in the tsunami were being punished by god.

Err maybe Europe and the other nations in the UN for one.

Another president hasn't already driven the nation into a trillion dollar debt at the same time as slapping it's once loyal friends in theface.

Yes they do, I want to see how they explain 'God' wiping a state off the map.

The US was founded on a principle of unilateralism, the justification for which was validated over and over as Europe pulled us into more and more of their conflicts. Your countries are paying the price of not being able to get along.

yea, because the US has NEVER helped other nations in the midst of natural disasters....and I'm not talking just government help here (which has been admittedly weak in some cases) I'm talking about the numbers of volunteers, my own brother being one, who have packed up and gone to help in areas hit by floods, earthquakes, etc. etc. etc....

it's funny how folks antipathy towards the current administration and its policies spills over to include every american citizen - wishing all sorts of hell to befall them because you want to see how Bush has to eat shit when handling it and how a small group of zealots rants about it being part of God punishing them...

you have no idea what is in the heart and mind of the majority of americans who detest Bush and his foreign policy - his fucking approval rating is barely 40%, which is still 40% too high...

but ffs, you rant like the rest of the world is populated by an enlightened group of people whose politicians are above corrupt behavior...

This will serve to illustrate once more that whenever horrid shit happens in the world, the damaged country looks to the US with their hands out.
