I just don't like the mentality of hunting. Sure it may have positive consequences in terms of population control, but so would going to Africa and murdering families in the name of population control (in fact, I'm sure many are content to let AIDS do its natural culling without any moral qualms).
I don't believe that most hunters are motivated primarily by the consequences of population control. If they were, it would have evolved into a diff culture.
As it stands, hunting is a controlled thrill in the form of murder, and also associated with a rite of passage.
At least that's the impression I get - i may be totally off.

we have been predators on this planet for how long? how can we not be part of the ecosystem?
no, most hunters don't think of population control when they hunt. sure there are alot of fucked up people with guns hunting.
i dunno. i find it's very hard to get the point across to people from cities because they are really so much different than rural areas.
i do know that most city people that move to rural areas, after some time develop a different understanding about nature and their view of hunting changes.

Hunting for food is a different experience to hunting for trophies.shadd_ wrote:we have been predators on this planet for how long? how can we not be part of the ecosystem?
See above. I'm sure there are white hunters who hunt for food - in that case, there's less of a problem.shadd_ wrote:why is it because im a whiteman, that if i want to hunt for meat like a native or inuit, i become a thrillseeker or murderer?
you know who hunts for trohpys jules? it's the tourists from the big cities and the rich americans who come up here to hunt.
the people that live here don't give a fuck really how many points the rack has. they have a bit of enjoyment getting out in the bush, some fresh air, filling the freezer with better than bought meat that wasn't raised in a 4x4 pen.

imagine a world where only humans exist on a round concrete sphere.
The concrete cannot be harnessed for tool making, since it's perfectly smooth. I guess you could use bones as weapons, and intestines as ropes to strangle, but let's assume these humans are too dumb to figure that out.
The only way to survive is to eat each other.
Until there is one left.
Fight club meets Highlander?
What a boring and stupid idea.
Still - it crossed my mind and I wanted to share.

I think people that hunt for "sport" are micropenised fuckwits. If you want to kill an animal to eat it, great. Use as much of it as you can.[xeno]Julios wrote:

If you want to kill a lion or an elephant to show you're a tough guy, you should be made to do so with your bare hands.
kinda what i said, although not formulated quite so wellNightshade wrote:I think people that hunt for "sport" are micropenised fuckwits. If you want to kill an animal to eat it, great. Use as much of it as you can.[xeno]Julios wrote:

I have no problem with hunting if there is overpopulation of a certain animal. Even if it's for sport, because it doesn't hurt the general population of the animals if a few hundred are killed, in fact it's acctually good for them. But only during overpopulation, anything else I disagree with.
Also wasting the animal and then not eating it should be a crime.

then should we be debating the sport of hunting for food vs. the sport of hunting for trophies?
I don't think it is really a sport unless both sides are relying on their own intrinsic abilities, either.

i should add wasting any type of meat be it cow or chicken bought from the store should be a crime punishable by law.
why do chickens and cows gleen less respect than a wild animal?
when i see a transport loaded with poultry going to slaughter, it makes me want to bust the lock and set em free.
lol.

i haven't heard people saying much about 'wasting some of the meat' from an animal hunted for the purpose of food. The debate, as far as I see it, is over the basic intent of the hunt - are you hunting so you can have a stuffed animal in your house, or are you hunting so you can feed yourself and your family and others?shadd_ wrote:i should add wasting any type of meat be it cow or chicken bought from the store should be a crime punishable by law.
