I have a 5 gig rio carbon. Fucking awesome, it has 15 hour battery life and it's thin as hell. only downside is no customizing playlists on the go

i fought it for a long time.

BUT 60 gb...i can fit my whole CD collection on it. no need for my 5 disc changer at home or anywhere else i go. just make a playlist and bam. i didnt really buy it as a portable player.

i never looked into any other alternatives but i got a $100 off coupon from my credit card company whcihc brought it down to $299, same as a 3rd gen 20GB.
i can understand the storage part of it to a degree. other than that though..i cannot think of any other reason to get an ipod over a 'competing' RIO. unless to be fashionably keeping up with the joneses is your aim

- battery (life and cost)
- .ogg format support
- sound
- size (dimensions of a business card)
- weight
- appearance

Image
i disagree with appearance and agree with the rest. not quite as intuitive as an ipod either.

yeah battery life isn't the greatest with this thing but it's by my stereo plugged in most of the time. and different formats, i rip vbr mp3s and am not that concerned with quality or different formats.

again, since i had thought about it before factored in with cost and the ability to store everything i have ripped it would have been foolish for me to not have gotten it. i don't care that its a photo ipod. honestly, i would have preferred the previous gen display and interface.

how much did that cost you and how much can it hold?

you can pick up and find your way around its menus easier than the Carbon. in other words, more user friendly.

i think it's regularly priced at 179 but i work at bestbuy and with the employee discount it was about 144. i have the 5gb however they just released a 6...still no where near 60 gbs. then again it's a micro harddrive and not a mini like the larger ipods. different class

i would not have commented on such a thing if i hadn't used one. "borrowed" one for a week. same with a 20gb ipod and the Creative Zen NX.

i didn't mean that as an insult...which is why i put the questionmark at the end. i find my rio easier to use and navigate than any ipod.
