By year's end, Electronic Arts plans to release 26 new games, all but one of them a sequel, including the 16th version of N.H.L. Hockey, the 11th of the racing game Need for Speed and the 13th of the P.G.A. Tour golf game. The company also relies heavily on creating games based on movies like the James Bond and Lord of the Rings series, rather than developing original brands.
"There's a feeling of franchise fatigue. Gamers are wondering, 'Do I need to buy this game again this year? I just bought it last year,' " said Mike Hickey, an analyst with Janco Partners, an investment firm in Denver, who has a sell rating on the company's stock.
and here's what EA is all about:
Mr. Probst said. Besides, he said, sequels, because they have a steady following among consumers, appeal to Wall Street investors.
regarding sports titles, the hardcores will want the updated rosters/expansions.
nothing wrong with the Need For Speed series also. no, they're not coming up with any new ideas and are riding out the cash cow, but the games they're good at, they're REALLY good at.
on the flip side...
remember that EA map pack for q3? what a piece of crap that was

The way DM17 looked was amazing...
Where were you when the West was defeated?

The dreamcast map pack was great. Some of the levels beat the shit out of the stock Q3 ones. And d,17 DC version owned the original.
Plus, goint back to +JuggerNaut+'s "regarding sports titles, the hardcores will want the updated rosters/expansions. ", whats wrong with just releasing a new game every 2 years instead of then releasing an updated roster over live every so often?
Its not like EA add a lot of different shit to their games. Fifa is just the same as it was years ago, only now better looking. Need For Speed still has the awful gameplay as the first one, its just better looking. James Bond still isn't anywhere near as good as Goldeneye, its just... Better looking.
Why not just release the game, and then release the update. Yeah, less money for them, but its not like they need it.
Evolving on from this, take a read of what "spore" is about... Its a new way to make and play games, and it sounds fantastic. Every time you play its different, everything you do is different to the last.
Not the same as this EA thing, but its kinda related:
There was a front-page article in the Metro/State section of newspaper today all about the release of and new features in Madden 2006. Apparently they thought this was something important.

what does the DC mappack have to do with this? nothing. the DC is where i started playing Q3, so you're not telling me anything i don't know. "hidden fortress" is the best map ever made. period.
what kind of "different shit" do you expect out of a sports title that has the same rules for the most part year after year? how do you evolve a title like that and keep your sports gamers happy?

If there are two map packs, then sorry, I was not aware of this. EA did Quake 3 for the PS2, so i confused that with the DC mappack, sorry, you cry baby fucking cunt.

answer: you don't.
Yet again, screaming for no reason. Fucking hell. You cant be telling me that some of the things they have added cant be added in an Free online update. SURELY.
