Using a PSP or any type of LCD screen in a bright area

Post by tnf »

I love commercials that show folks playing on their laptops or PSPs or whatever out in bright areas (like the PSP commercials from McDonald's of a guy playing by a swimming pool.) You can't see a fucking thing on the screen in those conditions.

So, are there any LCD's that are designed to work in conditions like that? I find the fact that I can't really watch movies on my PSP while on long road trips during sunny days to be a bit of a pisser.

I dont think any monitors, CRT or LCD, allow work well in bright light. It's all about contrast, and having the glare from the sun on the surface of the monitor reduces the contrast and washes out the image.

you need something like this. No idea if they have 'em for PSP though, maybe you could rig something up from a digital camera though?

Get some velcro, thick black card stock (any craft store) and some super glue (if you want to make the velcro permanent) and build yourself a sunshade. Avoid superglue and just use the velcro glue to make it all removable.

Looks semi goofy, but it works well.

I think raw said the TFT screens hold up better under high sun light. A lot of the new technologies will work much better as well. The problem with an LCD is that it has to be backlit, which means you have to have less light pouring onto it than out of it.

tft does work better in sunlight, which is the reason why most newer phones use it.
