Resident Evil 4
Just got this game, about to fire it up. It any good? hard? easy? What'd you guys think?
its a good action game. dont expect any horror though, its pretty much "run into area, get 3 waves of enemies, door unlocks, run into next".
another plus: its quite long. much longer than i expected.
con: run of the mill overly mutated end boss

It had some scary bits IMO. Mostly at the early parst of the game though. Once you hit the island the horror is pretty much gone.MKJ wrote:its a good action game. dont expect any horror though, its pretty much "run into area, get 3 waves of enemies, door unlocks, run into next".
Some parts later on in the game are a bit of a drag to be honest. And yeah, every boss is pretty much the same.MKJ wrote: another plus: its quite long. much longer than i expected.

However, having said that, I rank RE4 in my top-3 games-of-the-year for 2005. The action is awesome, the gameplay is fantastic, the story is great, the characters are interesting and the graphics are to drool over (the cube has quite some power in it still). Really a fantastic game that can't miss from your gameslibrary if you have a gamecube.

nah, apart from a few references to Umbrella and the mention of Raccoon city indeed not, but I don't really mind. Which I admit might seem hypocritical coming from me after slamming the RE movie for having nothing to do with the RE games.MKJ wrote:i startled at the woman pinned to the wall, but thats about it.
it is indeed a great game. nothing RE about it though

Oh yeah that bit. I did the same. Barricaded the door, but then the fuckers started coming through the windows and this chainsaw guy chopped the door to bits. The only thing I could do at the moment was scream "THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN FRIKKIN' HALF LIFE 2!!! ........ BASTARDS!"
I liked the bit where you sit with you-know-who in the cabin shooting all the zombies. Died a few times, but after that I found that barricading the windows with the closets and throwing grenades at the windows was a good plan

Hunk? You mean that one guy with the knife fight and the erm... long arm? He's cool. Did you do Ada's Assignment? He's so much tougher at the end of it than in Leon's campaign. He was really easy in the normal game.MKJ wrote:flame grenading a mob is great fun too
and nothing beats Hunk's melee attack :icon14:
but you got 25 hrs of gaming ahead of you before you can experience that
Im 5 and a half hours into it and still on disc 1, & im a resi veteran.
Im really enjoying it, shame theres no zombies but it makes the wait for resi 5 unbearable.
Gameplay wise im finding it tricky, mainly because of firepower, I done the stupid thing of selling my uber-shotgun for a bigger carry case. Now ive got fuck all to put up against the shitloads af hoodies in the castle. Better challenge though, im lovin it!!!

no you're talking about Jack.
Hunk was a secret character from RE2, the Mercenary. his melee attack is the neckbreaker, an instant kill :icon14:
I found Ada's Assignment a bit boring.. not as much fun as say the 2nd scenario from RE2. I was also disappointed with the lack of backstory she had, seeing how she played an important role in RE1 and 2. and the fact that she fell 200ft into a powercore

I bought the 2nd carry case by the time the 3rd was available. It was sufficient. Rarely ran out of storage space because by that time, ammo was running pretty thin and I wasn't carrying 1 TMP, 3 pistol, 2 shotgun boxes and 36 herbs anymore.
I could even stash a rocket launcher in there
edit:
oh and count at least 15 hours for disc 1

I didn't know Ada at all. I have only played RE0, RE1 and RE:Code Veronica X. Never 2 or 3. I don't think she's a character in RE1.MKJ wrote:no you're talking about Jack.

Ada's assignment was boring yeah, it would be nice if it had more tie-ins with the actual single player story, but it is a nice kick-off towards Umbrella Corporation v2.0 (and probably RE5).
And this Hunk, where is he in RE4 then?
Ada was the password for the Umbrella computer in RE1. she's the wife of the inventor of the T-Virus. she plays a big role in RE2, where Leon encounters her looking for her husband (who died before STARS entered the mansion in RE1). after a fight with the wife of the inventor of the G-Virus, she falls off a metal bridge in the powercore of the 2nd lab. quite the dramatic moment as Leon tries to pull her up and lets go after she says it's no use anymore.
so i was quite suprised she was in RE4. i was like "oh NOW the plot thickens!!11one". but alas, it doesnt
not even in the Ada's Assignment game. and where did Leon hear she was working for Wesker
that confused the feck outta me.
Hunk is one of the 4 characters you can be in the Mercenaries minigame

Did you ever read the alternate script that they almost used for the first RE movie? It was set in the mansion, with most of the original characters from RE 1. Was pretty fucking cool too.Eraser wrote: Which I admit might seem hypocritical coming from me after slamming the RE movie for having nothing to do with the RE games.
Would've been a lot better I reckon.Zerofactor wrote:Did you ever read the alternate script that they almost used for the first RE movie?
