While that's true, it really is his and rhea's perogative on this one. Granted, they've been spoiled by the Q3 game source (which is, compared to other vendors FPS game code, very tidy). Of course, I don't think there's any rule to say arQon and Rhea have to be the ones to create such a mod for Q4. If it turns out they are the only ones who would, then perhaps their elitist attitudes are warranted. Who knows? :)

Heh. I'm mostly in a bind about the way the osp development has trinkled downward recently. Mostly after the huge thread arq made at esreality on updating osp, and based on a (few) troll responses (the general consensus I believe, most osp'ers would love to see their mod updated and maybe bring a few oldie's back to it ;) ), blew his gasket and decided to prolong his decision whether osp will ever be updated again indefinately. You know, the mod that is keeping q3 alive by the smallest of roots. :tear:

I think his decision could be summed by his sig and the way he feels about his true passion (cpma development):

It would be nice if it was though (wouldn't hurt).

EDIT: There's a chance it might improve the feel though no? I don't know if you've tried playing some ffa on vq3 servers lately or whenever but it feels so sluggish compared to (current osp) even. Recently I was messing with cpma, nothing major though, and it feels really nice. Maybe that kind of improvement can be felt in osp as well. I'm not gonna just latch on to cpma though because (at least from what I've seen) everybody plays 1v1. I mostly play tdm and ctf (both osp) nowadays. With ca thrown in between. =D

Because of those reasons I outlined. Not enough servers or players vote vq3 (let's not get into cpma > vq3 argument or whatever okay? but for the sake say that each has it's own preference ;) ). And correct me if I'm wrong but does anyone play tdm or ctf there? Or is it like 90% 1v1? (Add to that, the actuall game activity - when people are playing - seems to be non-existent). I also like playing with familiar faces (like the people that play ctf). :)

The thing I had in mind was changing servers running OSP to servers running CPMA/VQ3. Admins can pretty much lock down the physics and ruleset (if they want to) and players will benefit from improved netcode and other goodies.

CTF and TDM are played btw, but mostly through IRC pickup (#cpmpickup on enterthegame, if I'm not mistaken).

@Doomer: yes, just do /callvote gameplay vq3

I don't know how that would work unless you where to shake those admins by their collars and slap them on the cheeks before you get a response like that. ;)

The way I see it: (I'm not at home, so I can't fire up ASE and give you an exact number but)

Say there are 1000 osp servers. Today, 90% are never played on (or very very rarely, or just housed with bots). And even 90% might be a generous number.

Anybody that still plays Q3 today, pretty much knows that to even get a game going with humans means you have to look in familiar places that are frequented by regulars (and those are slim pickings to say the least). :icon32:

So I don't know if most server admins are even aware or checking up on their servers to see that they are constantly dead, and if so how come they don't pull the plug? Maybe they just don't care. If they REALLY haven't been looking at their servers at all, something like a huge announcment: NEW OSP RELEASED 1.04 OMG OMG or CPMA/OSP MERGER RELEASED! would maybe get them to update their servers. Maybe. ;)

FUN FACT: q3 has twice the players of UT2k4.

I'm hoping q4 doesnt even need an OSP, and has all the main "pro" features already in place. It only splits the community.

They didn't turn it down. I turned them down. They told me to remove the water, and I said no. Besides, MountainYew already did a map1 CA remake and everyone is too blind to see that his layout is exactly the same. I suppose they were too busy trying to flame me saying that I somehow ripped it off (It was a total rebuild. Q3Map2 wasn't even to the point where you could extract a .map yet when I finished the damn thing!) I had some other maps, but they didn't seem to care.

Oh well, I got a shitload of features put in that would be revolutionary if this was 2001 and people still cared about RA3. PM me.

Here's a little known fact. I was there for the initial development of "CPMA." You know what it was? Rocket Arena 3.

r0adrunner ran a RA3 hybrid server and suddenly it would say, "ProMode settings enabled!" or something like that. There was new stuff being added all the time, like silent footsteps for example.

CPMA is basically RA3 with OSP features and a bunch of little shit talkers.

Team Arena is honestly the most fun thing idsoftware ever produced. If Team Arena was the original version of Q3, the community would easily be double in size at this point.

Team Arena had the same problem Doom3 RoE has, it's an expansion. And as being an expansion can't really be modded for the masses.

Threewave CTF would of been fun, but since it's lobbed into the expansion it's not sharing the same root folder and thus eliminates alot of the client base.

TA was great. it was the whole 1.25 PR debacle that killed it. they also had to emphasize the teamplay just a tad more, by implementing flagdrop and runedrops.

when the demo was just out, it was first downloaded by the real ctf lovers, which made the game quite enjoyable. soon after the full release every warezkiddie was online screwing the game up with teamkilling and grenade spamming :icon33:

LMAO, Threewave is for newbs. What's up with that fast switch shit?

Here's what 80% of Threewave players do: They LG you while they run up to you. As soon as they get within a few feet they start RJing all over. Their LG stats are like 25-35% for the best Threewave players. :lol:

Every Threewave clown I've seen in RA3 loses to the easiest RA3 newbs.

It is fun. At least they got the 'all weapons' stuff right. Who wants to run around camping and timing when a weapon respawns? :lol: OSP and DM players, that's who.

You know what is another mod that was extremely fun until the developers fucked it up? Weapons Factory Arena.

They whined and cried about LG 'spam' (LMFAO) so they made the lightning gun lock up after 10 shots. Yeah, that sure did a lot for the WFA community... (Refresh ASE: 0 servers, 0 players.) Jesus was that mod fun at one time. The sniper rifle was utter perfection. Headkills all the time. Great sound effects. 9/10 for the whole mod until they started crying about getting owned.
