It's a pretty big step for an oil company to come out into the open about this (especially since they are normally so loathe to talk about their dwindling resources and supplies, due to financial implications for them), but it was bound to happen eventually. It seems they're the first oil company out of the gates to try to take a leadership role and convince people that they are the ones to turn to for help in facing this crisis.
Chevron is bright enough to realize that it's complete suicide to continue the trends their company was founded upon in the near forseeable future. The website is here:
Of course, Chevron wants to be at the forefront of any new energy model and continue to drive in the moolah. But for any company to actually look beyond the returns in their next quarterly report is a big step, indeed.

I think its wise for these companies to take the reigns cause even bush can tell the path we are headed down and thats why he made his lil decree about the electric cars or whatever it was by 2025. Even though it set it so far away that any pains the intustry must go through will be after his watch is over, atleast it shows even he knows something needs to be done.
But yea, when the companies like chevron and BP start investing time and money into alternative energy sources, support for alternative vehicles to run on those energy sources will increase i think.

It's a positive thing to see, and I'm glad their ads are helping get the word out, and the attitude. But these are also the companies who take advantage and massively profit of every energy crisis there is, including manmade ones.
So I am glad they are taking a more direct approach, but to them it's still just another approach to high profits, and I would really rather see other organizations benefit from the new energy realities - especially ones who have tried to make others aware of the problems before. These guys have been denying peak oil for years, in order to protect their profits. They just made the business decision that now they've maximized their earnings, and general opinion of them isn't very high, it's a perfect time to get started on making a killing off other energies as well.
