the goo in your arteries when you smoke - q3w doctors
so, what happens with all that shit that builds up in your arteries if you stop smoking? does it clear out to some degree or just not get any worse? if it clears out, what can someone - not naming any names - do to make it clean out quicker?

Circulatory system
-The effects of tobacco smoke on the circulatory system include:
-Raised blood pressure and heart rate.
-Constriction (tightening) of blood vessels in the skin, resulting in a drop in skin temperature.
-Less blood, which carries oxygen, available to the body.
-Stickier blood, which is more prone to clotting.
-Damage to the lining of the arteries, which is thought to be a contributing factor to atherosclerosis (the build-up of fatty deposits on the artery walls).
Increased risk of stroke and heart attack due to blockages of the blood supply.

they don't completely, but they are really good compared to the other methods (gum, inhalers etc).DRuM wrote:I wanna know if nicotine patches will take away my craving, but not take away my appetite like cigarettes do. That way I can give up easily and start putting on more weight. Maybe I can get my doctor to give me a free prescription for them seeing as they're £15 for a weeks worth.
as long as you get plenty of food in first, you can grab something to eat every time you want a ciggy. cravings only last for about 3 minutes, so by the time you've prepared and taken a bite out of a snack you should be feeling a little better.

That'd be funny if you've actually met me.4days wrote:that's revulsion, not cold.Zerofactor wrote:Ahhh, now I know why people freeze to death when I touch their bare skin. Oh well that's not so bad. ok, the first sensible response since drum cast the shadow of his massive schnozzle over this thread.riddla wrote:Start taking fish oil 1250mg, green tea extract and niacin 500mg pills and they should clean you out decently after a couple months. wash it all down with a big ol' glass of red wine
This advice I got from my lil bro who is doing his fellowship in general surgery. (I had specifically asked for a non-prescription method)
btw, the niacin will make you feel like you're on fire after a few hours, especially if you take it on an empty stomach
that sounds pretty hardcore actually. 500mg of niacin. shit, i take multivits + minerals every day and they only have 18mg. might give it a try
BUT IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE??
i was gonna say fuck off and get your own thread, but i find gum pretty good actually. for a long time even before giving up the cigs i liked to chew after meals or with coffee and hated the idea of smoking after meals. i recommend nicotinell fruit flavour 2mg. doesn't destroy your appetite either. some willpower still required howeverDRuM wrote:I wanna know if nicotine patches will take away my craving, but not take away my appetite like cigarettes do. Doesn't get worse as fast, but your arteriosclerosis will progress even if you stop smoking, dependant on your other risk factors.seremtan wrote:so, then...
p.s. DRuM, you tight bastard, why not buy the patches with the money you're not spending on fags? That's my taxes you're planning on spending.
so effectively what you're saying is there's no way to undo any damage?Geebs wrote:Doesn't get worse as fast, but your arteriosclerosis will progress even if you stop smoking, dependant on your other risk factors.seremtan wrote:so, then...
