Diego, it's no surprise to me you can't find an album full of good songs if that's the kind of shit you listen to.

Listen to this garbage. Christ sake!

Yeah, they're another band without a groove or a tune, hence the suckage.

DRuM in all due respect I don't think there is anything worse than musical snobbery.

I don't hate gays. I respect them. Anyone willing to have a big cock shoved up their anus, deserves some kind of respect I think.

I liked it but it could still use some work. right now i see it as being on the threshold of being really good but at the moment everything is just a little flat. making the tune a bit more dynamic sounding would greatly help. i hope you tweak it and finish up the track as my intrest in the song perked up just as it ended--but you said that really wasn't the end, so uh, yeah.

now as for this silly little music debate that's going on. i'm mainly concerned about the "live" vs "synthetic" argument. this is just my speculation, but a lot of what makes listening to music that was recorded live better--for lack of a more fitting term--is the fact that it's much much easier to get a dynamic range of sounds than it is when you create everything on a computer. I've noticed that when listening to ameturish electronic music that for the most part it has a very narrow range of sounds and frequencies. that's something that can be easily overlooked. whereas on something like a guitar it's much more easy to alter the sound by plucking the string harder or softer, bending it slightly or even just by barely touching it.

this dynamic sound can be achieved by "computer" musicians, it just takes a bit more technical know how and experience to learn how to play the computer, so to say. look at artists like fischerspooner. on their #1 album, fischer and spooner only used one live instrument sound, which ultimately ended up being played backwards, on a single track. but all of the songs on that album are so rich and full that you hardly think twice that it's just some rubish generated by a computer. their second album though, odyssey has a crapton of live music placed into it--and to be honest i don't think it sounds as good.

oh, and to give merit to my post i'll post bands/artist i listen to since that seems to be so retardlistically important.
NiN, Manson, Garbage, APC, STP, Soundgarden, Weezer, The Postal Service, Air, White/Rob Zombie, Zero 7, Fischerspooner, Elastica, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith(older stuff), AC/DC, Poe, George Acosta, Armin Van Buuren, No Doubt, Van Halen, Hendrix, Beck, WHOGIVESAFUCK?

Thats the listing straight from my HDD's (sub-folders not included). I don't claim to own all of the releases, but I don't actually have to physically own them to appreciate them.
you could use some pizzicato 5 and some more depeche mode :)

your music sample was decent. i didnt really see where it was going and it wasnt terribly interesting, but it seems like you put a good bit of work into it :icon14:
DRuM wrote: Perhaps if you could you might record something with decent musical content. It's like everyone is producing this stuff with no real love of good music simply because everyone has the tools at their disposal to make this stuff. Well produced but boring as hell. That's just my opinion, take it or leave it. Sorry. You can all flame me at your leisure. :p
i was hoping that you would be able to offer more incisive commentary into the work or give some more helpful suggestions into creating a piece or where exactly it could be improved, drum. even if it isnt your style, perhaps a little lesson in musical composition in reference to brisk's song would be interesting.

anyway, i think that wouldnt be as pretentious and would say loads more than just arguing tastes in music, which is of course very subjective.

p.s. drum I do music with "real instruments" in it and I liked it.

Not sure vocals would be a good idea though - unless you could do something other than the usual wailing female/vocoder stuff in electronic music. How about vocals in the style of Tom Waits....or even James Brown :D

If you're into mimimalism, then Mike Oldfield is a good one to listen to - allhough the problem with him is he can go from utterly sublime to embarassingly shit in a heartbeat.

DRuM wrote:it does make me wonder how much love for music they actually have. The musicians in this world that, IMO, produce great music are the ones that have listened intently to other genres of music for long periods of time over years. Everyone and their mum is producing stuff like yours. That's not an insult, just a fact. Everyone thinks they're a musician without even knowing what a chord is. I find it insulting to musicians that have studied music.
Compare this with saying that everyone thinks they're an artist without knowing what a sable brush set is for?

How dare musicians call themselves artists when they've never painted a still life.

Aside from that, your attitude is not so bad really. Worst are musicians who beleive that unless you're a musician also, you're not fit to judge whether music is any good or not.

I agree, but it's not snobbery. It's simply that there is good music and bad music. I happen to only like good music. There IS a narrow frame of mind on this forum for music, because a lot of the genres I like would be seen as shit by a lot of members on here, unless it's electro or techno. So because I say a genre is shit I'm a musical snob?

I did.

Yours has neither. There is no feel or groove to it, and hardly any melody, it's just 'sounds' :)

Tricky, because someone can say 'yes, reject any genre and you're a snob', then someone else turns around and says 'how about pop?'. Everyone goes 'oh, well.. POP is shit, but that's different'.

Then you get into what's a musical genre and what's just a musical state, and all that crap.

Seen this argument before.

Well let's put the word 'genre' aside. I'll enjoy anything that sounds good to my ears and moves me, regardless of style.

Okay, here's the deal, DRuM:

Last week I went to a Robert Cray-concert. He's a blues guitar player and has a good voice.
Problem is, he was fucking boring and I almost felt sorry for him. He never evolved beyond that 'Well, I'll just play the Blues until I die'-phase.
And I must honestly say that most of that olde shit is just dated and... well... olde.

Even if You don't like a certain band, it's not necessarily bad, DRuM. I am seriously surprised about your reaction.

It doesn't bother me. If someone was gonna post something, they would have regardless of any sub-discussion going on.

I posted this track in its current state to get a general reaction, and see if it justifies spending any more time on it. There are a number of elements of the track I like (the strings in particular), which I can always develop upon later, or use in another context, so its no skin off my back. I'm certainly not gonna get upset over something I spent a few hours playing with :)

Cheers for the feedback people, i'll take all your comments under advice.
