OK - My web host sucks...

Post by Shmee »

Anyone reccommend a good one? I'm using ixwebhosting right now, which I heard from many sources was great - but it's slow as hell and has actually had 2 periods of downtime (that I've noticed) > 5 minutes. This is unacceptable. I've asked them to look into it, they say everything is fine - so fuck em. I need decent responsiveness. Even when my damned host does work, simple SQL queries take ages (several seconds). Bah...

Anyone have some good experiences with hosts?

I've been using 1and1 for over a year but I actually pay for it. I've been pretty happy with their service. I get more space/bandwidth than I can use for $10 a month.

If you want to go with 1and1 please use my referal link and hook me up with a commission.

qiq.cc have servers hosted in the UK and Aus, and I bought a domain name for £20 for 2 years, and 10Gb space/PHP/100Gb Transfer/MySQL from them for £10 per year.

http://www.webhost4life.com

php/asp.net/mssql/mysql/everything
almost 100% uptime
good speed
unlitmited bandwidth
edit: also a better value (read cheaper) than any of the ones posted.

i'm not going to post a link with a referal, but if you decide to go for it and want to use my referal PM me. i'd appreciate it, and it doesn't cost you anything.

edit2: also their customer support is really good.
i use their middle service: http://www.webhost4life.com/hosting.asp

http://www.dreamhost.com is awsome. Check their offers. And they have very good customer service and seem to be cool people in general (you know they are a bit off when you read their customer update e-mails).

Careful with bandwidth tho.. they dont like it when you use 20 something gigs in 1 day :icon19:
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

Why did you use that much in 1 day? I only use about 400mb a day when I'm coding.

Cool. I usually offer to host shit for people but I'm cautious when it comes to movies for that exact reason.

I'll put in another recommendation for dreamhost. I like their custom control panel and they have a strong community.

Right now I'm using godaddy for a VPS, and so far so good. It's nice to have root access and be able to install things like postgresql and even a quake server (and it runs pretty well with 8 clients too). 500 GB/month is nice, as I never have to worry about bandwidth.
