Help me reach my goal: 2005 Ride for the Roses

Post by scase »

Hey guys .. I used to run the LAN-Festivus LAN Parties, but had to put them on hiatus for awhile. My normal forum account is Stickboy, but I cannot seem to get my password sent to me.

I am part of the Lance Armstrong Foundation Peloton Project.
What is the Peloton Project?
LAF wrote: The Peloton Project
The Peloton Project is the LAF's major grassroots fundraising and outreach initiative. In 2004, 7200 Peloton Project members collected more than $5.5 million in donations for the LAF to continue helping cancer survivors live strong.

How the Peloton Project Works
Peloton Project members raise funds and awareness for the LAF. In return, the LAF rewards members with various incentive prizes. Registered Peloton members who raise a minimum of $150 can participate in the Ride for the Roses Weekend.
The LAF was founded in 1997 by one of my personal heroes: cancer survivor and champion cyclist, Lance Armstrong. The LAF seeks to promote the optimal physical, psychological, and social recovery and care of cancer survivors, and works to identify and improve survivor services and facilitates the delivery of those services—with a large dose of hope—to those affected by the disease.

I am asking you to join me as I help the LAF in their efforts to improve the lives of cancer survivors. The LAF’s grassroots fundraising effort is known as the Peloton Project. Individuals such as myself from all over the world pledge to help raise funds in the fight against cancer and in an effort to increase the services cancer survivors receive. In 2003, 6,704 individuals from every state and 18 countries raised nearly $4.5 million, and in 2004, those totals grew to nearly 8,000 people and $6 million.

I plan on participating in the 2005 Ride for the Roses in Austin, Texas and completeing the full 100 mile circuit. I started training for this while I was recently in the hospital for a Stem Cell Transplant (12/24/2004 - 1/11/2005). I have been battling Non-Hodgkin's & Hodgkin's Lymphoma since June 2003.

You do not have to donate much $1, $5, $10, etc .. any donation is GREATLY appreciated.

You can go to my Ride for the Roses Page (CLICK HERE)and donate there (and also get a little more information) OR you can donate directly via this LINK.

I have kept an online journal since I was diagnosed in June 2003. That can be read HERE.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and thank you so much for your donations.

I would like to SINCERELY thank the following people for donating to my Peleton Project:

Yea I wouldn't think charity solicitation would be against the rules.

I won't believe he's a doper until he fails a test.

Until he fails a test they are just accusations. The man isn't perfect, but he walked away from a death sentence. That gave alot a hope to alot of people (including myself).

And no .. I am not dorothy ... I am Stickboy. :)

Festivus? Isn't that a Seinfeld word?

?

I see nothing in there that proves that he's a blood doper.

from your second link:
The thing to remember in the "Does Lance dope?" debate is that Armstrong's blood and urine are tested more than that of any athlete in the Tour, and he has come up clean. The other thing to remember, however, is that it's extremely hard to bust someone on EPO. The Tour instituted a conclusive test in 2001, but it only detects EPO that's been taken within one week. There is no test yet for human growth hormone, which is thought to be the latest scourge of the peloton.
not saying he does or doesn't dope - just that the links you provided only seem to discuss his relationship with that ferrari doctor.

Well if you read it on the internet at your favorite, like minded sites, IT MUST BE TRUE!

I do find it amusing that he goes out with a doper though

the thing is - only one of those links seems to push the idea that he's a doper.

There are over 11,000 users on this forum. If each person only donated $1 that would generate $11,000 for cancer research!

I have donated $1,000 of my own money already.

Come on every gamer must have a $1 laying around. :)

Thanks,
Shannon (aka Stickboy)

I might be missing some form of sarcasm here, but all your links are articles explaining how he's not a doping user

I doubt more than a few hundred are still active. I would love to donate but things are kind of tight this month.

How exactly do they help people "live strong"? Any of this money go to finding a cure?

I already do cancer research, so I consider that my contribution. :) Good luck, though.

(ps. feel free to contribute $1000 to me to advance my work. :icon25: )
