if they've made a solid tradeoff between graphics and density (I.E. if there's that many people and it's an entire cityscape) then that's pretty impressive.

Have you not heard of what UE3 can do? It can do all what you just asked, with zero level loading, on a huge scale, with great graphics. Check out Huxley, its a massive world where you can get in a car and drive around a real city, with people all around you. Hundreds of times more detail than this.

I'm not really considering the UE3 angle at all. I've seen pics of that. I didn't look around the page hard enough to even find any reference to UE3, either.

I was commenting on the game. The engines are irrelevent to me, and to be honest, what you're suggesting UE3 can do is pure speculation at this point.

Its not any more speculation than what ET:QW can do, hell, even waht Quake 4 can do. Just because its Epic doesn't make it any less impressive. Its due out in a year at LEAST, so its going to look amazing of course.

What I'm trying to say is that you just said maybe it looks that way because of hardware limitations (sacrifice one area, for another to shine) when thats clearly not the case because the 360 will run both, and huxley does the same but better looking. There are many ingame movies ofhuxley in action on the 360, running smooth. This isn't a sony machine, they are ingame, realtime.

You're right, on the 360, all the stuff is running on a PowerMac G5 in the floor with a dummy unit on display.

I've seen the Huxley trailer. Yeah it looked good, but it looked like scripted sequences and they didn't have the 'hundreds of units' that are standard in an mmo these days. I doubt they will be able to achieve that with the engine. 60+++ on the screen at once? Yeah right. Can you say pc rape?

Even still, have you seen the god father? On current gen consoles? That manages a respectable detail level with a lot of things going on, and thats on a console 10 times less powerful.

Also, have you even seen the pics? The people making it are clueless. They dont even know how to make local maps for gods sake, half the angles in those pics are wrong. And that has no impact on performance AT ALL.

haha. every generation of games consoles it's said 'this will be able to do it all, and it'll be better than a PC too!'.

It's never been true. What's more, it's never really got any closer than it ever has before, too.

Look, if the next consoles are capable of doing massive outdoor scenery AND dense population with high graphics, that means they could actually drop one thing (I.E. density) and replace it with crisper scenery.

it's a tradeoff, and not exactly hard to understand. It's got nothing to do with 'how awesome' the next load of consoles will be. The notion of toning down one aspect to beef up another is completely fundamental and nothing to do with how powerful a system is.

There's videos here:
http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1660

o'dium, check the video with the red car picture. You'll see how many folks they'll have at the screen at once.
While the geometry of the buildings and everything isn't exactly "next gen" it's a decently looking game for current day hardware.

I find it a bit of a Matrix rip off though.

I find it crap. The effects in the game are awful. And i don't mean stuff that hurts performance, i mean stuff like slow motion, it just looks shit.
