cybersquatting

Post by glossy »

i've just become a victim: http://pockyboard.com/

i miss my renewal date by 3 days, and some cunt pulls the rug out from under me. thankfully i still have the site and the database (and i've backed both up in the last hours of the DNS propogation just to be sure), but this shit is fucking stupid. The silver lining is that I finally have the opportunity to overhaul the site without worrying about people missing features or something -- I can start from a clean slate and still retain my old users.

Christ though, how fucking stupid... I can't even get the domain back because 'pockyboard' isn't a registered trademark. fuck.

I thought they gave you a month before it was open to the market?

I remember back before I got perfunction.com I wanted polyvalent.com but someone was squating it and wanted $25,000 for it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't registered they're company name. Why not go out and registered a few key frazes, and then demand they take down their website because it interfere with your copy rights and bissness licenses.

so crazzy

Berserk appears to be a rather knowledgeable programmer.

Aye, he added stuff in such a short time a few months back I couldn't believe it. In the space of less than a week, he managed to get PPL up and fully working plus Doom 3's shader system, plus many more advanced shader variables... The guys crazy, a machine.

pocky is a snack in japan, a thin breadstick thing, dipped in chocolate. Me and the guy I developed the site with called it "pockyBoard" during production, because we couldn't think of a name in the meantime. It stuck, everyone thinks it's funny :)

nope? It expired a few weeks after pockyboard's first birthday, and the domain was set up a few weeks after pockyboard went live (originally it was on a subdomain, until i busted open my quite low bandwith limit, so i moved it to it's own setup, where the rest of my sites also now reside)
