Yeah I deal with timeshares all day long, it's my job. 20k is an average price for one.bitWISE wrote:Sounds like you're going to the wrong beaches. When I went on vacation I only saw two or three bikini chicks I wouldn't dare look at again. I think staying at a resort on the beach helped filter out all the whores with 3 kids and a GED. I think it cost my gf's dad $20k to buy his timeshare :icon28:

Well it depends what you buy, there's multiple programs but the first type of timeshare or the one that used to be most common and probably still is today is like this.
You buy a place at a resort for one week per year. We'll just say a week for now to keep it simple and it's most common. So for that week, say july 4th week every year it belongs to you for life as long as you can pay an upkeep which can be anywhere from 100$ a year to 2000$ maybe more who knows.
Sometimes it's in a big complex with a bunch of other units and other times it might be an individual private house on a property with many houses that all belong to that resort/timeshare.
And that's basicly a timeshare. Some have 20 year limits or 40 some are flexible meaning they can vary dates and unit # from year to year and there's a lot more.
My buisness deals with timeshare owners that don't feel like going wherever they bought cause they're sick of it. So they give me the week they own and they can trade it in for another week somewhere else that someone else gave us cause they too were sick of it. It's tricky though cause a lot of people don't know enough about it or understand what's a good deal and what's a blatant rip off. I might give up this job someday and go sell these things myself the comission you get for it is insane and being an RCI agent gives me a really big advantage cause I know the in's an out of how the buisness really works and a lot of people that sell them have no clue.

That's what the yearly fee is bascily for. The resort owners take care of the place like a hotel. You're correct too it is a very big money making thing. It CAN be worth it though if you're either lucky or someone like me.Chupacabra wrote:I hear its a big money making thing.
So who cleans up the place and stuff? There are hired maids?
