All of this implies that I had any idea that caffeine was metabolized, which I didn't. I do know diuretic substances help increase the amount of urine that leaves the body and lower fluid levels, so I will guess that to mean that caffeine is metabolized (like you said), which somehow does something funky to the kidneys to make it process fluids and add it to the bladder faster. But I still don't understand why the fluid levels in the bladder can be very small yet you still have a great urge to pee. Without caffeine, the bladder can holds lots of liquid that seems high in urea content (dark yellow, etc), but without the great urge to pee on a non-full bladder like you get with caffeine.

I've got this red mark on the shaft of my penis, any ideas guys?

not sure what it is, but i know what it is not: dehydration.

yes it is.

Kidney stones usually present with renal colic i.e. agonizing colicky pain in one side of the body which radiates from the back to the groin and is often so bad it makes you puke. If you're not passing much urine and it's dark, you're dehydrated. The correct inevstigation and treatment for this is to drink water until you pee.

or just autodetect it when they're posted with a redirect to a surgery website or something. there's a useful phpBB feature right there.

As a person who has experienced numerous stones, I'd say that the way you describe them presenting is not 100% accurate for each case. I've had numerous stones that didn't begin with pain, they began with blood in the urine - causing the urine to look dark (brown/cinammon colored). That's why I suggested a stone as simply one of the things it could be.

Dark urine from dehydration can look different than urine that is dark due to the presence of blood, can't it?

Go to the doctor and get a blood & urine test. They are not too expensive and tell tons about your kidneys.

edit:

Like mentioned above, it could also be dehydration. I have one kidney, and I have to keep an eye on my urinating and defacating habits. Darker urine is ok(generally dehydration). Thick brown urine is generally related to kidney problems.

And blood in the urine can give it a brownish color.

Actually, now I've had some sleep: if you do strenuous exercise, you can pee some blood or even just some haemoglobin - haemolysis due to exercise is common in young people and gives dark brown urine. But I still think it's mostly dehydration

i experienced none of those symptoms when i was dehydrated, but then again, mine might have been more heat stroke related, which share none of those traits.

Think it through. Not going to the doc could lead to you being hospitalized and/or operated on. Off the top of my head, I'd say that would cost a hell of a lot more than going to your family doctor or at least a walk-in clinic.
