Dunno.. kinda weird man..
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

Well that is my main issue with STEAM. Even if that wasn't an issue I wouldn't like it, for reasons stated above, but I could tolerate it more if that was not an issue. One reason I hate it is sometimes during the winter, or when the DSLAM is being worked on, the internet can go out for a while, nothing much, but if the DSLAM was damaged from snow during the winter I don't like not being able to play some HL2.

Well maybe, since Steam is auto-updating Valve thought the offline mode for HL2 to be a vulnerability and auto-updated it to stop that. Now HL2 wouldn't start, but HL:Source would. Here are some pics to prove it:
offline mode isn't disabled. you probably need to re-enter your password or something. offline works fine for me (dialup)

It isn't so much that I am without HL2, it is the fact that I paid for it and I should be able to play a SP game whenever the hell I want. Especially if like you said "a step in the right direction" then soon the amount of games I will be able to play will be smaller

Steam never bothered me that much (except for the install), but i happened to slam control alt delete the other day and i discovered it claims an outrageous amount of computing power for just sitting there and doing nothing. I was all like 'i'm gonna uninstall that fucker!' but i didn't actually get around to it yet.

Did it happen to be updating or something? when it does large game updates (like cs:s patches) it does use a bit of resources

Hmm, could be... didn't check.
I'll uninstall it anyway since i only used it for HL2 and i don't see myself playing that again any time soon.
