I've never thought Steam was a failure. I think they could add a little bit more funtionality so that gives the player a _little_ bit more freedom with what he chooses to do with the software, but I personally have had a pretty good experience with it.
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost

I don't have problems with it aside from it being a hassle during install.

I was skeptical at first, but have not had any problems with steam whatsoever.

Bite the bullet and buy it, I'm not a fan of the idea of Steam either but you're just cutting your nose off to spite your face by not getting it.

Why is steam necessary? Why must steam run as a process? Why must steam run in my taskbar? Why must steam give me info about its shit company whenever I start my computer? All of these things are unnecessary in the life of a minimalist/purist and will only lead to corperate power-mongering.

I myself don't have a true issue with Steam, but I honestly don't see the point to it. I having to log in before being able to play my game, especially when I want to play single player. While I have not had this happen, what if my DSL was down for a day or so and I wanted to play some HL2?

Also, a rant mroe about HL2, what is its problem with overclocking? I can pull 140 FPS solid with overclocking, and I don't recall what I pull withour overclocking, but damn is it a total bitch about it. Also the load times, even on my 74GB WD Raptor, are horrible for any game, especially when it loads off the HDD

Centralized way to push out patches, and prevent (or try to) warez

YOUR software?
Nope, sorry, its not YOURS, its VALVEs software, you just pay to USE it..

Load times and Overclocking.
Never had any issues with overclocking myself.. only game that hates it so far has been WoW..
Load times tho, honestly, arnt near as long as games like BF2..

You really seem to like steam, i dont really see why you feel the need to use all your energy backing up an unneeded program.

People have differing opinions, its called life.

I very much like steam, its a step in the right direction for gaming.. while i agree it "KINDA" sucks for people that dont have net, fuck em. you can at least get dialup out in the sticks..

Its not a huge deal either, its not like is uses much resources anyways..

I dont really care either way. I have internet, as for people that dont, its a pain in the ass if they want to play any games released by the company.

Sure they can get internet in the sticks, but what if they dont want to pay for internet just for Steam? I know i wouldnt want to pay $12 or whatever it is a month just to play Half Life 2.
