New ICE initiative for mobile users in the UK

Post by Foo »

Just a headsup,
There's an initiative now in the UK used by ambulance/other medical services called ICE (In Case Of Emergency).

Essentially, if you're found unconscious or badly injured or such, medical staff will contact the person listed in your address book as 'ICE' to inform them of the situation.

Handy for people who don't have clear address books, or specifically don't want their parents/ex wife contacted in case of emergency.

So just key in an entry called 'ICE' and the number you want.

Dunno how much steam this will gather, but it makes about as much sense as carrying a donor card.

Wasn't this started as a response to last week's bombing?

Tried it. Removed it because it overridded "mom" when she called, so eve nthough i had "ICE" and "mom" in my phonebook, every time she called it came up with "ICE".

Maybe as well as something like this phone companies and handset makers made it a NEEDED feature to have this kind of info on ALL mobile devices and PDA's etc...

No it's a couple of months old, but a good idea.

Ah.. I was listening to the BBC World Service the other day and I thought they were saying it cropped up because of that. It probably just got a lot more attention.

True story:

On my passport, I put the name of a geezer I fucking hate as the person I want notified of my death, just so he'd have the horrible time of telling my mother the news.

I'll now change his name in my phone to ICE.
