the headline of that article doesn't make sense. it says 108,000 killed in iraq in 2003 alone, then says that 39,000 have been killed in the two years since the war kicked off

the 108,000 refers to the world total of small arms-related deaths in 2003, according to the last para

oh, and compare this

39,000... a figure considerably higher than previous estimates

with this

...a study published in The Lancet, a British medical journal, last October, which concluded there had been 100,000 "excess deaths" in Iraq from all causes since March 2003.

no explanation of what happened with the other 60,000. the whole thing is just badly written. no wonder geoff went for it like a fly to shit
