But if he is then thats great, i can also see him being director of motorsport for ferrari or atleast F1

yeah, he's a hot headed one alright. i was hoping Sato would become a little more than he has this year. he seems to have that raw passion, but it sometimes gets him in trouble.Don Carlos wrote:Yeh, ever since i saw that vid of his abusing the bloke who hit him in the head with that camera he has overtaken Fisichella as a firm fav
there have to be some sort of restrictions because otherwise the cars would have about 2500bhp now. im sure they had about 1500bhp on the qualifying engines when they were allowed turbos, the engines were good for a few laps but would not stand a chance of lasting an entire race...Don Carlos wrote:
Yeh this is a good point, but what i would like to see is
the cars made quicker. Simple as that. Back in the good ole 90's
they made that odd cone like "gearbox" that was 1 big gear,
no it kept the maximum amount of power running through the car
at all time. If you listened to it the revs didnt change. It was an
odd sound but the cars were stupidly fast, and back in them
days the cars were allowed Turbos too. Thats what we need.
Also the fact the dynamics are bad enough to make all the
drivers complain about overtaking need to be sorted. apparently
the way they make the air move behind them is like running
into turbulance in a plane. Nightmare.
Also the old tyrrell rocked worlds
truly fast cars are not going to be suitable for the circuits they currently race on, they would need huge run off areas etc
all i want is cars that look as if they are on the edge 99% of the time, plus some more overtaking, which shitty brakes would provide

i read somewhere that by the end of 2006 if they kept the current engine regs the 3000cc engines would be approaching 1000bhp - then think of all the restrictions they put on the engines every season, if they still had the engine specs of 1980 they would be close to 2500bhp - shit they should make 16 or so new circuits in the middle of nowhere with huge run off areas and have 2000bhp.Don Carlos wrote:2500 bhp
now its obvious the drivers are very skilled, but i wanna see something hardcore - more mansel/alesi/villeneuve less schumacher/prost style, i couldnt give a fuck how smooth a driver is and how he keeps his tires from fucking up, i want to see something scary.

Yeh thats right mate
Tho i do disagree about Schumacher being a boring driver, he is hugly intelligent and has some bollocks. Before all the stupid regs came into place he used to do some amazing overtaking

you're probaby aware that its the replacement for formula 3000... so it has familiar teams and good competition.
but what i found interesting is that the gp2 series seems to be what people want to turn f1 into.
the cars are the same basic design as f1, only cheap and heavily spec'd.
alot of the CF is replaced with steel (eg. same suspension as f1 only steel not carbon) to keep costs down.
the engines are only ~550 hp, not ~900 hp, so its a wee bit slower (25mph slower on silverstone, but 5 seconds a lap faster than the formula 3000 cars)
the engines are also designed to run the entire season on one rebuild... so there is also a massive cost savings.
also they have no electronic driver aids at all. (no tcs, no stability control, no steering wheels with 200 buttons etc...)
they also use ground effects and less wing for the downforce, so the cars can get alot closer, as the wash from the car infront doesn't effect the ground effect downforce.
all this creates alot more wheel-to-wheel racing...

should check it out... they travel with the circus. Speedvision aired the last two races, i'm sure i'll find it more interesting when i know more of the drivers and such... but its definately good racing.
