I use the manual settings A LOT on this cam. It's really good for P&S, but the manual settings are great as well - you can change pretty much any setting you want to.

You can easily carry it in your pocket if your pants/shorts are a little baggy. I put it in the pocket of my cargo shorts all the time. I just recently bought a little leather case for it though, so I can just carry it dangling from my wrist without worrying about it getting scratched or banged up.

That picture you quoted wasn't illustrating that point though - just an aside.
i know what you meant, i'm just being a smartass. :)

It's just a good thing to keep in mind, especially when you're already willing to spend $300. If you use 300 as a reference point and find a camera you really like around that number instead of committing to finding a camera that exactly fits within a hard limit, even if you end up spending another $50 or $100 you'll be much happier with it.

I spent 400 on mine about 5 years ago and by today's comparison it's a pile of shit. The cameras out today are much better, much cheaper, and you don't have to gamble with your money like I did.

i appreciate your advice, but everything 5 years old today is a piece of shit, and while yes 300$ might be a good starting point, why not save up 100$ more and start at 400? there is no ceiling in electronics, and setting a realistic limit for yourself in todays world isn't very easy. If I am just using the camera for P&S record keeping, it fits in my pocket and is almost too small for my hands to use, then that's all i need. For my computer use.. i don't use my computer for games i don't have time for games. I use it to look at the news, microsoft office, and chatting. I COULD spend 2000$ on a new powerbook, but i realize i have been using the same imac for the last 6 years and i could probably take it with me to college and get even a few more years out of it, but i wanted portability so i decided to get a powerbook. I got a 1ghz 15" pb from my friend for 500$ It isn't a speed demon by any means, but it gets done what i want it to do and i have a feeling it will last me a few years. I don't really have time to be a photographer, i just want the pictures so i can look back and say good times, not just, good picture quality. As i don't really have any need for a super duper camera, i'm not going to buy a super duper camera. All i want is something very small, decent quality, semi sexy looking, and mac compatable of course. Maybe someday when i'm rich i will be able to buy that "300$" camera :)

All I'm saying is don't spend $200 just to have something when you can spend $300 to have something you'll appreciate

It's not a monetary thing, it's an appreciation thing. It works in reverse too.. Don't spend 400 if you find a camera you like for $25.99 at K-Mart. It's really easy to buy a crappy digital camera if you're not careful
