Coded Arms - the first FPS for the PSP

Post by tnf »

The graphics are decent considering...but the PSP is not ideal at all for FPS style games. The controls (by default) work as follows -
the thumbstick moves you around, but do look in any direction, you have to use the four buttons (x,o,square, triangle). You can adjust acceleration and sensitivity to move a bit quicker, and the targeting does sort of 'snap' to enemies (but you can turn this option off.)

Other PSP owners - I'd definitely not buy this one until you've rented it. The levels are pretty boring - it uses random map generators for each level - and they all end up being big box room connected by corridors, with an occasional elevator here or there.

I don't want to try it cuz I hear it updates the firmware to 1.52? I'd like to play with my emu's for a while longer yet. :p

Or at least untill there is a firm viable solution in the form of memory stick loaders which could essentially by-pass the firmware update check. :ninja:

It has the firmware update on it, but I believe it is a choice as to whether or not you install it

That sounds like an incredibly awful game.

On the one hand, the PSP holds up pretty well as far as framerate goes, there aren't hitches, etc. So, it does seem to imply that there MAY be some good FPS's out there in the future (if a better control scheme can be worked out, or you can get used to the button thing...its not as bad as you'd think once you get used to it.)

Is this it? Looks a bit like half-life.

THere are some enemies that look like blatant half-life rip-offs. Little bug things that jump at you like the head crabs, for example.
