so you're not bothered by this?
According to the results published by Howes, four different builds of the Windows AntiSpyware beta detected the Claria products, but the default recommendation was "ignore."
well if you are dumb enough to get infected with claria and even dumber still not to change ignore to delete then you really shouldn't care about this change at all...
Yea, why would anybody need anti-spyware software anyway? If you are dumb enough to get infected, then you really shouldn't care what's on your computer at all. :icon22:

Hey, look at it this way... At least MS didn't wait 3 or 4 years, until everybody fully depended on their software, and then silently allowed ad-ware to install on their PCs. lol

i'm directing it more towards why MS would do that, not if a user is dumb enough to be infected. :dork: nice try.
I know, it's a dumb move on their part, but if you are attentive, nothing a quick click cannot fix.

ok, but this really doesn't involve many of the people that are reg'ed here, but the casual point and clicker which are NOT attentive and don't want to be bothered modifying default settings.

dumb move? yeah. bad move? most definitely.

Wow some people are really thick. BetaNews has an article about this and some comments are 'I uninstalled MS AS because of this'. Honestly not that big of a deal, if you install bonzi buddy in the future and don't want the gator shit on your pc, select remove instead of ignore. Boohoo. :/

No, the Gator thing's not really that big a deal at all, as far as working around it/fixing it. It's just that the whole move is going to make a lot less people trust MS for their anti-spyware, and for good reason.

I mean, what if they made virus software, and then decided to buy off some programmers who wrote viruses, and then decided to update their virus software, so it would stop blocking those kinds of viruses without telling anybody?

It just belies their motive. "We told you we would keep you safe, but that was only when we couldn't make money off the alternative."

edit: am I the only person who doesn't use antispyware anymore? Well, I guess if you're going to have massive casual inter-sex you should always wear an e-condom... mostly, I think antispyware and antivirus software is a band-aid approach to a continuously evolving problem.
periodically check your registry, view the objects cached in the temp settings and shut the fuck up, wankers.
Yeah, I'm gonna go digging deep into the million+ registry tree manually and look for stuff... :dork:

Or I can fire up one of the antispyware tools once a month and see if anything new is infected... which usually is not.
Antispyware tools, like antivirus tools are only as good as your last update. do spywareguide.com right after running ms antispyware beta and if you don't find something MS has missed (with custom settings, torm--don't fucking test me goddammit) at least 50% of the time, I will personally fuck your wife.
how about you don't talk and let the big boys hash this one out, johnny?

there has to be a good reason, they wouldn't jepordize their whole antispy beta just to get into bed with an advertising company.

Maybe a buch of morons complained because their precision time/weatherbug stopped working. or possibly to skate around a lawsuit. Gator is pretty powerful in the advertising underworld.

she's got a full rack spyware dictionary and a backend java search tool that's tight like a tiger. Plus it doesn't need to prefetch every time you load yer OS.

Actually, I agree with you. The problem is that no one antispyware company has a comprehensive enough database yet so a person either has to hunt manually or use more than one detection tool to get the job done. One thing I do applaud MS for is continuing on with Giant's Spynet database.

I personally rely on a combination of MS Antispyware and Spybot.

As for the "Pay" programs I do not remember what ones beat the pants off adaware, I'll get that info later for you.

As for the freebies...

I use a cocktail of Spybot, MS Antispy + advanced tools + System Explorer, Hijack this, Symantec Antivirus Corporate's expanded threat scan, and a registry search. All done in safe mode, and I do not reboot until I know I killed them all.

I google all things found my SAV's expanded threat scan and use the removal tools/instructions, to makke sure everything is out.

I have only come across one that I decided to format... but that's only because the user had 1.4MB of data to backup ;)

Already said it, all you had to do is read.

Well according to all the reviews I have read last week XofSpy was the best with a new adware update everyday. Which means that they really stay on top of it.

I have used it and it has found more stuff on my computer when M$ Antispyware, Adware, Norton Antivius, SpyCop, and few others that I have just been run. It found two bad spyware's and a virus.

So if you believe you got something better go for it. I can only suggest the best. No skin off my nose.
